Meet Dionne Dixon of North Carolina

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dionne Dixon.

Hi Dionne, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
United States Army veteran Dionne M. Dixon is a dynamic leader, speaker, advocate, and organizational change strategist whose life and career have been rooted in service, resilience, and transformation. Coming from a proud legacy of three generations of Army service, Dionne has carried forward a deep commitment to leadership, discipline, and advocacy for others throughout every chapter of her professional journey.

Originally driven by a passion for motorsports and entertainment, Dionne earned an Associate degree in Motorsports Management Technology from Rowan-Cabarrus Community College with aspirations of working in NASCAR. Her entrepreneurial mindset and love for communication later led her into radio and television in Syracuse, New York, where she developed a strong presence in media, public engagement, and live event communications. She also served as a public address announcer for two semi-professional football teams and coached Pop Warner football in Long Beach, California, where one of her players happened to be a young Snoop Dogg.

Dionne continued expanding her professional expertise by earning a Bachelor of Science in Sales and Marketing Management and later an MBA in Project Management. Throughout her career, she has consistently combined business strategy, leadership development, public speaking, and outreach to create meaningful impact across organizations and communities.

Her passion for helping others and advocating for the underserved led her into veterans’ advocacy and public service, where she became widely recognized for educating veterans and families on earned benefits, transition resources, and support systems. Known for her ability to connect with people from all walks of life, Dionne has dedicated much of her career to advocating for the misinformed, overlooked, and helpless.

Recognizing the growing emotional and psychological damage caused by toxic workplace cultures, Dionne pursued certification in Industrial and Organizational Psychology to better understand organizational dysfunction, leadership toxicity, workplace trauma, and behavioral dynamics. This specialized training fueled her mission to confront toxic work environments that contribute to mental health struggles, workplace PTSD, burnout, and adverse health outcomes.

As the founder of PotnKettle Group, LLC, Dionne now speaks, trains, and consults on organizational culture transformation, trauma-informed leadership, emotional intelligence, workplace toxicity, and professional development. Her bold, disruptive, and thought-provoking approach challenges organizations to confront uncomfortable truths while empowering individuals to heal, grow, and lead healthier workplace cultures.

Fun facts about Dionne include appearing as a contestant on Wheel of Fortune, Deejaying for family and friends, coaching youth football in California, and building a diverse career that has spanned military service, media, business, veterans advocacy, public speaking, organizational psychology, and entrepreneurship—all fueled by one unwavering mission: creating environments where people can thrive instead of merely survive.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The road has not been smooth. Finding the target audience. Navigating Social Media, in which I had to hire a Gen-Xer to run my social media campaigns.

But most of all, believing in myself and addressing the Imposter Syndrome and workplace PTSD that I was dealing with. The majority of the struggles were mental and emotional. Even in this venture, combating the feeling that I do not belong or am not qualified enough to share my knowledge, gifts, and talent.

Self-sabotaging has been a real obstacle to overcome. The temptation to quit, for no apparent reason, is real when a breakthrough is just around the corner.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
In addition to my consultation and speaking engagement work, I am deeply committed to serving Veterans and their families. My background includes working as a Military Services Coordinator with the United States Department of Veterans Affairs, where I provided benefits education, outreach, transition assistance, and claims guidance to service members, Veterans, and survivors. I now continue that mission as a Veterans Services Officer, helping Veterans navigate access to benefits, resources, advocacy, and support systems they have earned through their service.
One of the most meaningful parts of my work is being able to educate and empower Veterans who often feel overlooked, confused by the system, or uncertain about where to turn for help. I help from personal experience.

What I am most proud of is my ability to connect with people on a human level while still challenging systems that normalize dysfunction. I love to see people win in life. When veterans receive the compensation due them, or someone breaks free from a toxic environment, mentally or physically, I am fulfilled!

Also, I am the Vice-Chair of Spencer Parks and Recreation Advisory Board. A super proud moment was organizing and implementing the highest attended annual 5k race!

What sets me apart is my combination of lived experience, professional expertise, and bold authenticity. I do not simply teach theory—I speak from experience shaped by military culture, public service, leadership, entrepreneurship, organizational psychology, and personal resilience. My background in Industrial and Organizational Psychology allows me to analyze workplace systems and behaviors through both a strategic and human-centered lens, while my communication style makes complex organizational issues relatable and impactful.

I am also known for bringing a disruptive but solution-focused approach to difficult conversations by making the intangible tangible. I believe organizations cannot heal what they refuse to acknowledge. My work challenges leaders and employees alike to examine how toxicity, unresolved trauma, fear-based leadership, and unhealthy communication patterns quietly damage morale, mental health, productivity, and organizational trust.

At the core of everything I do is a passion for advocacy, education, and transformation—helping people move from surviving to thriving, whether in the workplace, in transition from military service, or in life itself.

Any big plans?
I am looking forward to making an impact in organizations, communities, and companies with Detoxing The Toxic Environment.
I also plan to get my pilot’s license. For the sake of saying, “I can fly an airplane”.
I plan to train others and develop a certifiable program that enables them to become champions of the D.E.T.O.X. Method.
