Hi DIONI, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
DJ DIONI’s project started at the age of 12, driven by a child’s quest to find their true passion. Beginning with unwavering support from my family in Nicaragua, regardless of the comments or opinions of many, I always held a clear goal: becoming one of the electronic music representatives in the country and touring different nations.
Hence, from the start, I’ve strived to give my all on every stage, aiming to create unforgettable experiences for the audience. This passion has led me to incredible opportunities, performing in amazing venues alongside globally recognized DJs and artists like Firebeatz, Bobby Burns, Los Ángeles Azules, Gregory Klosman, and many more.
One of the pivotal moments was at 15 when I joined the Life in Color tour, seeing my name alongside DJs I greatly admire filled me with immense pride. It was the result of relentless effort, dedication, determination, and proof that dreams can indeed come true.
Upon finishing school, I pondered what to study at university that could harmonize perfectly with my passion for being a DJ. After thorough research, I decided to pursue Marketing in my second home, beautiful Costa Rica. I graduated as an advertiser specializing in marketing communication. This step elevated my career to another level, and I always advise young individuals to choose something that makes them happy and aligns with their passions.
Starting afresh in Costa Rica meant beginning from scratch—I didn’t know anyone. Yet, I remained focused on making DJ DIONI an international name. I reached out to numerous people, sharing my music and project. It’s crucial to note that in such endeavors, one often hears more “NOs” than “YESes,” but it’s part of the process. The key is not losing that spark and energy because, sooner or later, someone will offer the opportunity you’ve been waiting for.
When that chance arrived for me, opening for Los Ángeles Azules in Costa Rica, although it wasn’t electronic music, I knew it was the door opening to showcase my name in the country. It was an unforgettable experience, and the love from the audience was priceless. That’s where my career in Costa Rica took flight, leading to performances at iconic venues like the National Stadium, in front of thousands—an incredible feat made even more special because my family, the ones who first believed in me, were there.
While in Costa Rica, I seized the chance to perform in one of my favorite cities in the world—MIAMI. It was a dream come true, stepping into one of the entertainment capitals as a DJ. My first show was a massive success, and the overwhelming love from the crowd every time I stepped off stage still fills me with emotion. It’s surreal to witness how a 12-year-old’s dream has become a reality. Now, my focus is on knocking on doors in this incredible city and reaching further heights.
At 24, I’m immensely grateful for life and all the individuals who’ve crossed my path, supporting and aiding me in realizing my dreams. For me, a successful life is about having incredible stories to share and being an inspiration to others.
Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Like in every story, there are incredible moments and not-so-great ones. I believe the most painful part can be when, at the beginning, many people don’t believe in the project and don’t offer the support you expect. But that’s where all that passion and determination must shine through, ignoring those negative aspects and focusing on what you truly want to achieve.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
DJ DIONI’s project has always been primarily focused on the electronic music scene. Every time my name appears in a festival or party announcement, I strive to give my all. I study the musical atmospheres of each country to deliver an explosive set and convey a unique vibe to everyone. My aim is that every time they see my name, they automatically remember and don’t miss any of my shows.
