Today we’d like to introduce you to Desroy Smith Jr.
Desroy, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I was born and raised in Broward County. My parents came from Jamaica and I was the youngest of three children. Growing up as a kid, I first developed a passion for sports, but my passion for creativity and music was also developed at a young age. Basketball was the main thing I was influenced by as a kid and it provided me with many opportunities such as being able to attend private school and traveling around the country. It ultimately has taught me many life lessons and sports, in general, have molded me into the man I am today.
I was able to attend the University of Central Florida (UCF), where I studied business and communications. Initially, I didn’t know what I wanted to do but at the same time, during those years, I began to learn more about entrepreneurship. It honestly started with me reading a book called “Rich Dad Poor Dad,” where I was able to learn about the cash flow quadrant and how money is made. I since then have not been able to look at money the same. After graduating from UCF, I started working in retail since it was difficult to get a job right out of college. Shortly after, I began working in finance, where I was then overworked and became burned out, which pushed me to want to start my own business.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely has not been a smooth road. A few struggles that I have encountered include trying to build a team, looking for investors and funding, staying disciplined and challenging myself to be a better leader every day. I have struggled with time and management and constantly having to remind myself to never give up.
Please tell us about Smithersjr Visuals.
The name of my company is called Smithersjr Visuals LLC. It is a content production company, where I help personal brands or businesses bring visual creations to life through photography and videography. I also help people who are looking to build their social media presence as well. I specialize in creating content and helping individuals or brands take their social media to the next level. I’m most known for my creative work and videos through flying a drone. I am most proud of being able to help people bring their ideas to life and inspiring other people to realize that they can chase their dreams. I believe what sets me apart from others is my ability to be transparent with my audience and utilize my drone to showcase my personal visual artwork.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
My proudest moment as been just to finally get started doing my own thing and immersing myself in things that I feel are my calling.
