Today we’d like to introduce you to Deniza Marcinkevica.
Hi Deniza, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My journey started in the world of tennis. I grew up competing, eventually coaching, traveling, and spending most of my life on the court. Tennis shaped who I am — it taught me discipline, hard work, and how to connect with people from all over the world.
While I was playing and coaching, I also earned my MBA from Lynn University. At the same time, I kept noticing how many people at the tennis courts had dogs — they’d bring them to practices, tournaments, everywhere.
The passion for pets started right there on the tennis tour. So, after I finished my professional tennis career, I started volunteering at a local animal shelter. I was heartbroken to see the challenges they faced. Many shelters depend on donations and don’t have enough money to keep their facilities running or care for the animals properly. I also saw that many people wanted to adopt pets but were worried they couldn’t afford surprise vet bills. I realized there was a big need to help with the financial side of pet care—for both pet owners and shelters. That’s why I co-founded SkyTails.com. I wanted to create a platform that helps pet parents feel financially prepared and confident. SkyTails is a simple savings and investment plan for pet parents — it helps people set money aside so they’re ready when life happens.
My mission with SkyTails is to build a future where no one has to choose between money and their pet’s health — and where every pet has the chance to be loved, protected, and cared for.
Today, SkyTails grows, and we have a team of talented people who have a passion for pets in their DNA as well.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I would say it has not been a smooth road, but definitely been very meaningful because it helps pets, their parents, and even shelters. At the beginning, there were some challenges to build trust, to explain SkyTails’ mission and brand concept, as well as some technical issues and misunderstandings. However, when I hear positive impact about how SkyTails helps pet parents and shelters, it reminds me of why SkyTails even started.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about SkyTails?
SkyTails is a savings and investment platform made just for pet parents. We help people prepare for unexpected vet bills, so they’re not stressed or surprised when something happens to their pet. Instead of waiting for an emergency, families can start setting aside small amounts each month — and their money grows over time.
What makes SkyTails special is that it’s simple, affordable, and built with love for animals. We’re not insurance. We don’t make things confusing. We’re here to help people be ready, feel safe, and care for their pets with confidence.
I’m especially proud that for every person who joins SkyTails with a “shelter’s QR code” (offered by shelters we partner with), we give back to animal shelters. So by saving for your pet, you’re also helping others.
SkyTails is dedicated to enhancing the lives of pets and the people who love them.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
What I love most about Boca Raton is the sense of community and the active, outdoor lifestyle — it’s a beautiful place filled with pet lovers, families, and entrepreneurs. The weather, the parks, the beaches — it’s the perfect environment for both people and pets. It’s also a great city for new ideas and small businesses, which helped me bring SkyTails to life.
What I like least? Honestly, it can sometimes feel like everything moves a little too fast or is focused on appearances. But I think that’s also what drives people here to work hard and create something meaningful — you just have to stay grounded in your values.
If we talk about Miami, it’s a beautiful place with a fast-paced life. Beautiful people balancing work and personal life. I’ve also seen a lot of pet lovers, young and talented people. For me, the pace is too fast, and I don’t like that much traffic. But Miami is a great city for connections, network, and community.
