Today we’d like to introduce you to Debra Allen.
Debra, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
I was a nurse for thirty-two years. My son was critically wounded in the Iraq war with paralysis. Left nursing to care for him, started my small cake shop in 2010 it was during the height of the 2008 recession. The business did not produce enough income to sustain my family thought about closing the store was very depressed felt like a failure. I always felt like there was more to accomplish so I did what I know would work I got on my knees and prayed to God for an idea. The idea worked so well that I was able to stay in business. The key lime pies were voted best pies in America by Business Insider Jan 2017 buzz feed named the bakery best bakery in Florida, number one New times news and more accolades. We were featured on Deco Drive 1-4-2019.
Can you give our readers some background on your work?
We make forty different natural key lime pies specialty key lime pies made from locally sourced fruits when in season. Keep the faith no matter how difficult things become. What would you recommend to an artist new to the city, or to art, in terms of meeting and connecting with other artists and creatives?
Lonely food vendors could attend local food festivals, or network at farmers markets and local restaurants to potentially gain clientele.
