I decided to open Grace & Thread at the end of last year. Grace comes from my daughter’s name a constant reminder of my “why”. As a parent, you want to give everything to your kids, not so much the material things, but the memories you create with them. My goal is to be able to have more time with my daughter.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The journey has been fun, but certainly not easy. Juggling a full time job and a household is challenging enough. Adding a business to it only makes everything else more challenging. When I decided to have handmade clothes in my shop, I honestly didn’t think about how much time it goes into it. It has been demanding, but so worth it. I’m still learning a lot of techniques on how to better my business, always looking for other options on how to work faster, so that I take full advantage when I’m able to.
Please tell us about Grace & Thread.
Grace & Thread is based on Handmade Custom items. We offer custom diaper covers, Skirts, Tops, Dresses and more with an option to add Embroidered Personalization. One of our top sellers is our Skirted Bloomers; it’s a must-have for the princess of the house!. We pride on the quality work that goes onto all our items, and that clients notice it, it’s rewarding. What I love the most about being a custom made shop is that clients get a chance to create their own outfits based on the themes and color schemes they want.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
If I had to start over, I would have prepared myself better prior to opening my Etsy shop. I did not anticipate I would have so many orders. Time management is definitely essential, Every Item requires attention to detail and that’s what I focus on creating the best pieces for my customers.
