

Today we’d like to introduce you to David Tabb.
David, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I was studying Elementary Education at FIU and got a job as a beach attendant at the Pelican Grand Hotel in Fort Lauderdale. I learned customer service and got a great tan. I moved up to be the Chief Concierge and the Guest Service Director. I loved helping people have memorable experiences so the job was fun.
Unfortunately, the company I was with lost the hotel to the bank and they eliminated the position. I was lucky enough to have met so many people and had a reputation as a good leader and service person that I was hired as the General Manager of Best Boat Club and Rentals. The owner, Jimi Batchelor, took a chance on me since I didn’t have any boating experience and taught me how to truly run a business.
Since I was 17 years old I wanted to be in business for myself. I saved enough money and after a short discussion with my wife, I bought my first Welcomemat Franchise in 2012. Since then I have purchased 2 more and love being my own boss.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The initial launch was smooth. Got some great accounts, serviced them well, and got them the results they expected. Cruising along until the point where I was frazzled because of all the work trying to grow and service a large number of customers.
The hardest part for me was learning the hard reality of knowing the numbers of my business. I always had the ability to generate revenue but had to learn how to make money. In 2014 I buckled down and really got laser focused on the numbers of my business, and concentrated on improving on the 4 main numbers that were driving my business.

Welcomemat Services is a marketing revolution for small businesses. We are the nation’s most technologically advanced & sophisticated Neighborhood Welcome Package. We only work with businesses who are looking for loyal customers and not just one purchase and then done.
Restaurants, Dry Cleaners, Car Washes, Dentists, and Auto Repair places are who we help.
When someone moves into the neighborhood we send them a welcome package with gift certificates to local businesses in their area. We know that when someone is new they are looking for their loyalty spots, places they will build their lifestyle.
We build tracking into the gift certificates so that the businesses can see who has come in and watched the program work. It completely turns key, the business owner has one responsibility and that is to take care of the customer we will do the rest.
As we have grown we now offer more products to help the business owners increase the frequency of visit and increase new customers from their neighborhood.
What makes me most proud is when I see reviews from new families thanking me for introducing them to their new frozen yogurt place or dentist. It means the right business is in the package and have created a great feeling for the new person in their new community.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Growth and customer longevity. For the 5 years, I have owned the business it has grown each year that tells me I am doing the right things in terms of sales and service.
When one of my clients does something great I really get excited. Recently I had one of my pizza places installed a wine bar, this says they are growing and that is a win-win for us. He stays with a client and I keep helping them grow.
