Meet David Schottenstein of Privé Revaux in Aventura

Today we’d like to introduce you to David Schottenstein.

At the age of 21, David Schottenstein founded Astor & Black, which quickly became the fastest growing custom clothing company in the US. In 2009, he was named Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year; 2010, Inc.’s 30 Under 30; and in 2011, Schottenstein sold a majority stake in Astor & Black to a private equity group. In 2012, Mr. Schottenstein and a childhood friend founded Viewabill, a cutting edge, rapidly growing cloud-based transparency tool that allows clients to view their legal work in progress in real time. In addition, Schottenstein invested in several business ventures including Mizzen+Main, a men’s clothing company that focuses on performance material dress garments and Mellow, a new robotic sous-vide cooking machine made for the convenience of home cooking.

In 2017, Schottenstein set his sights on disrupting the luxury eyewear market with the launch of Privé Revaux. Driven by his passion for style and quality, and the belief that designer eyewear shouldn’t be a luxury reserved for a select few, Schottenstein established an elite team that included celebrity partners Jamie Foxx, Ashley Benson and Hailee Steinfeld as well as Creative Directors Rob Zangardi and Mariel Haenn. The fashion-forward, high-quality range of eyewear, that retails starting at $29.95, became an instant hit amongst consumers, influencers and celebrities like Jennifer Lopez, Katie Holmes, Blake Lively, Matthew McConaughey, George Clooney.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Although the road to success wasn’t always easy, Schottenstein persevered through multiple challenges, including production melt downs, quality issues, changing the brand name a week prior to the launch date and curating a team of celebrity partners that had similar values and vision as himself. Despite the few road bumps, Privé Revaux was profitable within their first three months of business and before the company turned three years old, Safilo Group, a worldwide leader in the design, manufacturing and distribution of eyewear, acquired a majority stake in the company, valuing the young company at over $110 million.
