We are thrilled to be connecting with David Rodriguez again. David is a Director/Editor/Creative Direction expert and is also a content partner. Content partners help Voyage in so many ways from spreading the word about the work that we do, sponsoring our mission and collaborating with us on content like this. Check out our conversation with David below.
Hi David, thank you so much for sitting down with us again. For folks who might have missed our initial interview, can you start by briefly introducing yourself?
My name is David and I direct videos for artists and businesses while using my editing talents in mixed medium compositions to creatively tell my clients story. I started off making unique home videos of my daughter incorporating SFX I was practicing and learning, which lead me to the name “Dad Filmed It”. I am currently directing Music Videos for tons of artists and actively working with local businesses like Tacos & Tattoos & Kendall Supply to help elevate marketing, content creation, and art in general in our community of Kendall. I am proud to be and represent for Miami in the way this platform has allowed me.
Where is Dad Filmed It headed?
I’ve been a one man production studio since this started and I’m currently working to get a team of very talented individuals together who all specialize in a specific field in production to take over the city’s content creation market. The goal isn’t just music videos or marketing campaigns for small businesses but to be a one stop shop for any and all creative marketing needs.
Do you have any upcoming projects your excited about?
I’m excited about every project I take on! To be able to create and support my family off art is a privilege I don’t take lightly and am always stoked about.
I’ve gotten to form a great bond with the amazing people over at Tacos and Tattoos and the creative direction we’ve been taking in their branding and marketing is something unlike anything I’ve seen from any restaurant ever and it’s an honor to be able to collab frequently with them. Also, eat their food…It’s edible art.
For music videos and musical artists I have to say I’m really excited about the work I’ve recently been creating with All But 6 Talent Agency (Pouya, Boobie Lootaveli, Kxllswxtch), and artists like Nick Garcia, Bernz, Cozzy, Worldwide Wedneday, Chico305, John Fifth, Southside Gauxst, and so many more.
What is your approach to delegating others on a set?
It’s a collaborative effort always. I want the artist all the way to the production assistant to have just as many ideas as me. I’m open to anything and everything. I always go on set with a general idea of the execution and final product but in my experience as also the editor in these shoots, it’s the in between moments and mentioned ideas from others that always have the most impact on the final product being delivered. So it is not so much delegating more than it is seeking and motivating others to want for the final images to be as beautiful or impactful as I’d want it to be.
What, in your opinion, is the most important quality in a Director?
1. Want the project your working on to be the best it can be and be willing to die on that frontline for it. You need to believe in what your doing. You need to LOVE the process of it good and bad. 2.Being open to not having things go according to plan
Thank you so much again for sharing all of this with us. Before we go, can you share with our readers how they can connect with you, learn more or show support?
