Today we’d like to introduce you to David JJ Lionel.
Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
I have only recently started my journey into artistry. I began taking photos as a photographer in May 2018 coinciding with my graduation from university.
For me, I’ve always had a fascination with visual media and art, and photography began as my way of understanding how to create visual art. For me now it’s about making moving images that say more than the components or technical skill involved. In October 2018 I visited the South Broward area. This period really really helped push my desire to create and collaborate forward and also produced work that for the first time I was fully confident in.
I can say confidently that photography is the only passion that I’ve had and something that I had worked hardest for and I still see there is such a depth to continue to delve into. I’m excited for the adventure.
Please tell us about your art.
I am a photographer. When exploring in London, I like to capture everyday things that catch my eye that is not necessarily considered aesthetic by most.
One day my brother asked me to take photos of him, and from then I have had an interest in taking portraits and being involved in taking photos for fashion brands and musicians. My involvement with music event photography has also developed my interest in videography and film which I am going to be stepping into soon.
I take photos because it’s something I enjoy. I love capturing moments of things that not everyone sees. Sometimes it’s to share something unique or different at others it’s to have a tangible recollection of a time or emotion. I hope that people identify through my work that life all around us is vibrant and if you want to do something make that happen in any way you can. Use what you have! The most creative ideas are often borne from the most restrictive circumstances.
Personally, I’m developing my skill as I said I am still very new to art and photography. At the moment I am still looking to create and collate the meaning behind my pieces. I am still and always will be on the hunt for perfection in my work!
As an artist, how do you define success and what quality or characteristic do you feel is essential to success as an artist?
I define success as being able to execute an intention to create. The feeling that you accomplished something is a very powerful motivator. You need to succeed first in your eyes to be seen as successful to others. After that, all other forms of success will follow!
To succeed as an artist, one must have a strong sense of pride and resilience. There are many times you will fail, or others will fail you. Recognize your creations for what they are worth and harness that strength to keep going and bounce back
How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
The best way to support me would be to tell your friends and share my work!!!
