Today we’d like to introduce you to David Berry.
David, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Well, I started off from buying little cheap cars and selling. You know something simple for every car for people who needed a reliable/cheap car. When I started selling the little cars, I notice I was slightly losing money having to pay someone to do and repair my cars, so I said: “hey let me get a body shop”. So, I partner with an old friend and we were making money together, I buy cars and he repairs them. But when I started to see how easy it was repairing cars and painting, so I decided to learn on my own. I watch him for two years and eventually I caught on, brought me a cheap gun and spray one of my lil cars, and it came out pretty good.
The more I practice, the more I got better. Till one day, I branch off got my own shop and started fixing and repairing my own cars. More money came in, I started buying newer cars and making more profit. Then, I was buying cars from the auction more but my overhead of towing was high, spending 1000 a month on Tows, so I sold my car to get my tow truck and again I taught myself. Watch YouTube videos and learn from there. So now, I have two body shops and trucks and working on getting more trucks and a tow yard in 2020
Has it been a smooth road?
I came across A lot of obstacles, losing friends, money, poor decisions. It was hard at first, more like a gamble. To the point, I had to sell things to be ok. But it was worth it. Fell out with friends due to jealousy or didn’t understand the plan I was trying to accomplish. Like I always wanted a one-stop-shop, and that’s always been my dream. And when you don’t see that vision (friends, family) then I had to leave them alone, and that was my hardest obstacle. Then when I got all the truck I didn’t know so many permits and fees you had to pay, which I had to make sacrifices to get, so yes there were plenty of challenges.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the J&d autobody and towing story. Tell us more about the business.
Well, my business repair cars, fix, paint, customs paint, also I team up with jla motor so now we starting a team on a one-stop-shop. Second towing, accident, simple towing, thinking bout doing repos and getting contracts with companies for towing. And last, I finance cars and sell on the side and purchase cars from the auction for customers
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
Expanding more… tire shop, tow company, bigger body shop, motor shop, a one-stop-shop for all vehicles.
