Meet Darlene Wooldridge PT of Back To Health in Fort Lauderdale

Today we’d like to introduce you to Darlene Wooldridge PT.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Darlene. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Back To Health was founded in 2004 with the desire to become a community resource for Health and wellness. We have grown from a staff of 2 to now 11 employees.

Back To Health (BTH) is an energetic company dedicated to providing patients with the best and most comprehensive orthopedic physical therapy. Our goal is to help patients achieve long-term restoration so that may return to their normal activities without pain or dysfunction. Our motto is MOVEMENT IS MEDICINE!

Our newest branch of BTH is the Wellness program where we provide proactive education and assessment in order to provide “health care” as opposed to “sick care”. Our programs include yoga, core and more classes, FMS (Functional Movement Assessment and Corrective exercises), personal training, personal stretching, Mindful Meditation as well as nutritional classes and individual consultations -including a supervised shopping experience!

OUR MISSION:
To provide professional one on one care to our patients in order to achieve the most successful outcomes possible, including long-term relief from pain that improves the quality of our patients’ lives and their health and also improves their function.

Our newest branch of BTH is the Wellness program. This is to provide proactive education and assessment in order to provide “health care” as opposed to “sick care”. We are a community resource for total health and wellness.

Has it been a smooth road?
It has been a bumpy road to success. Declining insurance reimbursement has forced a refocusing of ideas and programs. There were many days that it would have been easier to give up but I considered it a challenge to look at things differently and think outside the box.

Having a staff that really cares about the people that come through the doors is essential and I am blessed to have found them. We have a caring, loving staff that loves their profession and walks the walk. It has been an interesting journey that almost 14 years later continues to challenge and fulfill me.

Striving to help restore function and create a balance in peoples lives physically and emotionally is our daily goal.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Back To Health story. Tell us more about the business.
Back To Health has always specialized in our back strengthening programs. We have specialized machinery called MedX that helps you strengthen your neck and back muscles. There are more than 75 peer-reviewed medical journal articles have been published to confirm that MedX’s proprietary technology can materially decrease chronic spine-related pain issues, restore spinal function, reduce or eliminate the need for ongoing care, and improve patients’ quality of life.

We also treat patients with any orthopedic conditions including but not limited to shoulders, knees, ankles, feet, balance disorders, BPPV – benign paroxysmal positional vertigo.

We are especially proud of our wellness program where individuals continue their exercise program under loose supervision in the familiar setting. No one is just set free to fend for themselves in the confusing and frantic exercise world. Each person in the facility is looking out for the best interest of each and every person.

If a class situation suits someone better we offer an array of classes from an educational yoga series designed to assist people with back pain to complete and succeed with yoga (Happy Back Yoga), regular yoga classes to more intense classes such as Core and More- plus many more programs.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
The health industry is changing drastically. Gone are the days where you can wait until you have an injury and look for physical therapy. We are in a more proactive society where people are smart enough to know they need to help themselves.

Movement is medicine and the earlier you start moving and the quicker you catch an injury, the faster your recovery. Health is a combination of physical, emotional, mental and dietary changes. Increasingly higher deductibles are placing the responsibility of personal health on the individual. Prevention is key. Through education and coaching, Back To Health is here to help you with that responsibility.
