Today we’d like to introduce you to Daniel Crespo and Ryan Landis.
Hi Daniel Crespo and, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Ryan Landis and I both met as interns over 15 years ago at a local studio in Boca Raton, FL. We became close friends over this time and both shared a love for DJing and producing music. Throughout our friendship, we found ourselves making music together until eventually we formed a duo “Landis & Crespo”. We found great success with our new venture, from releasing music that reached the top 25 charts on Beatport to playing huge festivals such as Electric Daisy Carnival.
As time went on our solo DJ careers really took off. I (Crespo) started holding DJ residencies in huge cities like Las Vegas, New York and Sydney while Landis started to headline major festivals and release huge hit records. We have remained close friends still to this day.
A few years ago before covid, we were presented with an opportunity to fill a vacant space at Sistrunk Marketplace. We both have had a dream of giving back the knowledge and skill of Djing & Music Production. So, we decided to open our very first Music & DJ School. This is how Wired Sound Academy was born.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
The road has been a bumpy but successful one. We opened wired in 2019 right before the pandemic hit. We saw huge success only to have it completely be cut short. Once lockdowns and quarantines were in place, we had to adapt. We developed online classes via Zoom for both DJing and Music Production, both of which were huge undertakings. We saw great demand for online courses during this time and also found new source of revenue.
Overall, opening the school has been extremely smooth, and going into 2022, we have graduated over 100 students!
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
We are both creators at heart. Whether it’s making a new song from scratch or putting together a three-hour DJ set that sends our audiences on a journey. We specialize in making people happy through music.
We’re both extremely proud of many things, from the shows we’ve played across the world to the major festivals we’ve headlined and the music we’ve released with millions of plays. We are grateful and also humbled by our success but most of all we’re most proud of Wired Sound Academy and the amazing students who have graduated with us!
Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
Don’t be afraid to fly to new cities and enter new bubbles. We often get stuck in one bubble or “place”. It’s important to network into places everywhere. Sometimes you have to invest money into doing so, you may not see an immediate return but some of the best investments I’ve made were flights to a new city with new places and people to meet.
