Meet Dana Alouidor

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dana Alouidor.

Hi Dana, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
Since I can remember, I’ve always been the type of individual that enjoys finding new hobbies and seeing how far I can go with whatever hobby I gravitated towards at the time. A few of my hobbies that I enjoyed and got paid for were photography and nails. Being that I was in college at the time pursuing my undergrad, it became very difficult for me to balance school, fitness, work, and internships, all while trying to accommodate clients.

Although my love for my hobbies slowly dwindled, I knew that I wanted to try something else out that I enjoyed doing. One day I went to an event that had various artists there, and I quickly became extremely invested in trying to get myself into the art world. I spoke with various artists and their advice was to simply “just start,” and I did just that. It has now been three years and I am so excited with the progress I have been making from creating pieces for individuals and having my website up and running.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It is definitely not a smooth road, but nothing in life is easy and nothing will be handed to you. Some struggles along the way are getting your work showcased, exposure, and support. Social media is a fantastic tool, however, it takes time for people to actually notice your work, share your work, or share your business page. It’s a long game of patience and dedication and I am ready for it all!

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am currently in the energy industry and I truly enjoy it! I work with data, and although it is not my dream job it definitely sharpens my skills when it comes to paying attention to details, taking a step, analyzing the bigger picture, and storytelling; all of which are skills that are perfect for me as an artist.

What I am most proud of is being a black woman in this industry. I plan to get further in this industry and hope to one day inspire other black women to take interest in the energy sector. There are many things that set me apart from others, but the one thing that always gets me where I need to be is being driven. When I set a goal, I make sure I create an effective action plan and execute it!

Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
Aside from being an abstract artist, another hobby of mine is working out. I am into everything fitness and always try to challenge myself mentally with my workouts. Although I work out mainly for my health, I also use working out as a tool to strengthen my mind. There are days when I am just not in the mood to work out, but I do it regardless and I ensure I give my workout session my all. The way I see it, in life everything is about discipline.

There are some days when you will not be in the mood to do something even if it’s something you love to do, but the job needs to get done anyway. So you do it. I use working out as a way to still get it done and put that work in even if I don’t feel like it, and in return, I train my mind to basically get the job done in every aspect of my life.
