Today we’d like to introduce you to Dakarai Smith.

Hi Dakarai, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve worked in the fashion industry for a long time as a stylist and used that time to study and improve on my craft as well as build a solid network. My business partner and I decided to start VDS with the intention of creating an aesthetic in fashion we felt was missing.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
It’s absolutely not been a smooth road but we’ve still managed to launch a successful collection in the midst of 2020 chaos. Because of the pandemic, our production process was delayed and we also experienced a robbery in our showroom. However, these struggles are part of the growth and only motivate us to keep going harder.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a Stylist, Designer, and Creative Director. What sets me apart from others is my ability to read fashion and identify what’s missing. I’m most proud of being able to launch this brand without outside funding.

As a small, up-and-coming business, every little thing counts towards our growth. Something as small as telling a friend or sharing a post really helps raise brand awareness.
