Meet Cyn Lagos in Wynwood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cyn Lagos.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
From time to time I find myself realizing that the beginning of my visual journey began before I could give myself permission to consider myself an Artist.

Visuals have been part of my life for as long as I can remember, creating my own secret alphabet made up of symbols, drawing endlessly when I could not find the words, and finally taking the leap to graduate with a Fine Art Bachelors in Graphic Design.

It was Design that opened the gates to the world of Art. More importantly, it was Design that introduced me to a new manner of thinking which trained my brain to consider the abstract, color, layouts, and shapes, as a form of communication.

Over time I would find different mediums to channel my storytelling — enter Photography. Photography inspired my enthusiasm for stories. Now, I understand there is power in picking up a camera each day, searching for the narrative you want to tell, some your own, some from those around you. Always however, a story told through a visual language.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It hasn’t been a smooth road, but then again climbing to the top of a mountain never is. That’s what I am hoping for, in fact that’s what I am a feverishly working towards.

Some of the struggles that I did not forecast have to be those surrounding my mental ability to open up to thousands of people out in the Internet.

When I first entered the world of Social Media there wasn’t an outlet for Advertisers, let alone thousands of other Photographers competing with the latest gear to be the very best. The focus at the time was to tell a story with your iPhone 3G and embrace the feedback of friends.

I believe in that till this day, and although at times I struggle to keep up with the magnitude of the internet, I aim to remain honest with my work and tell a story that can make you feel connected to the physical moment I was lucky enough to capture.

Please tell us about CynLagos.
My work is the outcome of my curiosity for the serendipity of life. Collecting the urban streets, the ordinary moments, and the extraordinary people. I feel the most proud when I can work on a visual story that I know can age along with me and represent a time that can never be repeated.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I think it’s essential to be bold.

When I started there were times when I naturally found myself in moments of doubt. Since then everything that I’ve accomplished took effect because of my firm belief that it was worth pursuing and nothing was going to stand in my way of manifesting that belief.

I think it’s important to assure yourself that if a project compels you, than it’s worth sharing it with the world as well.
