Meet Claudia Vidal of Miami

Today we’d like to introduce you to Claudia Vidal

Hi Claudia, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I’m Claudia Vidal, Brazilian, I’m 57 years old, mother of two children, 36 and 30 years old and now Sophie’s grandmother of 4 months. I have a degree in Beautician for 30 years serving hundreds of women and bringing high esteem to all of them.

11 years ago I met canoeing, I was very stressed with so much work and my super busy routine. It was when walking along the beach in Niterói /Rio de Janeiro I was invited to get into a canoe I was 46 years old, I fell in love every day with the beautiful sport and with contact with nature that at the moment was what I needed.

I was dedicating myself to training, improving my diet and I managed to be Brazilian and South American champion at the age of 50, I didn’t stop anymore, I’m a Brazilian triple champion.

I saw that age doesn’t mean anything.

In parallel I created the pink row, with women who had gone through breast cancer and some kind of depression.

Today this pink row is all over Brazil, where in just one day we got more than 500 people at sea making a beautiful prayer and thanking God for being healthy.

Two years ago I moved to Florida /Miami, where I continue to practice my sport and continue to win several titles.

On August 29, I went to Hawaii to fulfill another dream, to row the Queen Liliuocalani, a festival that has been held for 50 years in honor of the last queen of Hawaii.

I managed to join the first Brazilian women’s team to hold this race and we were very well placed from 360 canoes, being 160 women we were in position 11th place in the open category, because there were two members who were under 40 years old, so the old ladies did well.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Obstacle always had, today I’m reborn in another country, it’s not easy, because without speaking the language and other habits and few friends, but I’m determined, and I have faith that I made the right choice.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m determined and I try to be competent in what I do, I’m no longer afraid to say no, I’m sure I have less time to live than I’ve ever lived, so I don’t expect anything, I make it happen.

Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
My advice is; trust God, get up early and make it happen, don’t expect anything from anyone.

Discipline your mind, respect your limits and do everything for pleasure and put love in your life, because with love for what you do everything is lighter.
