Today we’d like to introduce you to Claudenie Mondesir.
Claudenie, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
During the start of COVID-19, I started to think about my patients, people with or without mental illness and how they are dealing with the pandemic. I thought of a way that I may best serve my community during these hard times. Especially those that live alone and suffer with a mental illness such as anxiety or depression, which can affect someone greatly. This motivated me to take a leap of faith and decided to open my own psychiatric practice. I immediately thought of telehealth as a way of helping others that may be experiencing symptoms or dealing with a mental health illness during the pandemic.
This motivated me to get credentialed with insurance companies in order to better serve my community. It was not easy, but with determination, I was able to open my doors in July 2020! I’m currently accepting and seeing patients throughout all counties in Florida. Telemedicine is a great tool in helping medical providers to reach and provide services to those in need. We provide telehealth appointments while in the comfort of your home or office. Whether you have a demanding lifestyle or job, we offer and customize your visit based on your schedule to provide you discrete and flexible psychiatric care. We also offer private after-hour visits that can also be arranged to better tailor to their need. I’m a psychiatric physician assistant who has a deep passion for making a change in people’s lives. My goal was to service and make it easier for those that are in need and maybe dealing with elevated anxiety, depression or suffering from any kind of mental illness.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It was not a smooth road. Starting a practice is far much different than starting a general business. It entails of getting yourself credentialed by insurance companies, which was a difficult process. This process can take up to 90 days plus and meeting the requirements from each insurance may be different, especially as a psychiatric physician assistant. It was especially difficult trying to process paperwork during COVID-19. It was a bit challenging but with determination, I knew it had to be done. Although it was a grueling and painful process, I must admit the help received from my counterparts was truly a blessing. With their guidance, I was able to accomplish it and now I no longer fear the process!
Monarch Mental Health & Wellness Services – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Our mission is to provide optimal care to all of our clients. We are a minority based psychiatric practice that takes pride in servicing all of Florida via our telehealth platform, which is both HIPPA compliant, private, and confidential. During these difficult times, we want to make sure WE HEAR YOU and know that YOU ARE NOT ALONE. Many of us are with stressors or feeling alone or may not even be sure what’s going on with them mentally. WE ARE HERE FOR YOU! Over this past year, we’ve evolved with a cutting-edge approach, with breakthroughs in psychiatric care services, preceptorships, mentally fit programs for small and large businesses and tailored care for our busy professionals that cannot meet during normal business hours. We pride ourselves in meeting the needs of all our patients. We are multi-lingual minority practice that helps individuals in their native tongues. We provide services in Haitian-Creole, English, and Spanish. We take great pride in servicing minority populations at large, where you have someone that can relate and provide a lending hand during these challenging times.
Mental health is an essential part of our overall physical health and happiness. The minority communities suffer the most from an increased rate of mental health concerns, such as anxiety and depression. The increased incidence of psychological difficulties in the minority communities are related to the lack of access to appropriate and culturally responsive mental health care, prejudice and racism inherent in the daily environment of minority individuals. Being culturally responsive is MMH&WS mental health provider’s ability to recognize and understand the role of culture, both the patient and practitioner’s and the ability to adapt the treatment to meet our patient’s needs within their cultural framework.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
It’s very complex to define success, but for me, I would break it into different components: Happiness, Achievement, Significance and Legacy. Happiness is the feelings of pleasure or contentment about one’s life and I have just that. Achievement is the accomplishments that compare favorably against similar goals others have strived for and that I have done and will continue to do. Significance is the sense that I have and will make a positive impact on people I care about, especially those that are in need. Lastly, a legacy for me is a way to establish my values and accomplishments so as to help others find their future success. Having a purpose in life is also part of my success. This is my passion and I would not trade it for the world.
