Today we’d like to introduce you to Cindy Huzenman.
Cindy, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I have always been an organized person. At a very young age, the only way I could feel relaxed was by having my surroundings neat. I would even rearrange my room before going to sleep, and the feeling of happiness was palpable. What I didn’t know was that many (many!!!!) years later, I would be doing this for a living.
After having my kids and wanting to go back into the workplace I realized I no longer wanted to go back into the diamond and gems industry, so I decided to try something that wasn’t very popular at the time, Professional Organizing. I told my family and friends About it, and some even laughed at me, but I was up for the challenge and got on board full throttle. I decided I wouldn’t just be a regular organizer clearing spaces and putting things back into place, I wanted to give it a spice and do it differently. I remember thinking that if a space would be organized, also have a system, then I can also make it look beautiful at the same time. So I decided to apply my methods, which are Clean, Categorize and Contain. Use the 3 Cs from my company’s name CINDYOLOGY! And finally add cute labels and a pop of design into the spaces. I do have to credit my husband for name Cindyology though!
I started working with designers, kitchen and closet companies who sought out after my organizing skills and little by little got my own clientele. Word of mouth was the fastest way clients got to me. I figured I was doing something good if this was ongoing. Afterword, I was approached by The Container Store to be part of their Contained Home program, so I became an ambassador to their company, which I’m very proud of. My name was recognized more and more until I got a call to do a segment for a morning show called “Un Nuevo Dia” playing on Telemundo (NBC Universal). I expanded my company to have a team that can simultaneously work and travel around the country as well as Central and South America. I’m an active speaker and do conferences as well. My work has been shared in multiple magazines and shows. I have brand products for sale on Shop HQ and my first book will be coming out in September 2020.
Has it been a smooth road?
Not at all! The beginning wasn’t easy. I needed to prove myself and show my worth. Needed to get experience and knowledge for what I was doing. I did knock on doors that didn’t open but eventually, I proved myself and showed I was worthy. Hard work pays off. I do have a family and sometimes I leave early in the morning and won’t come back till later in the evening, so some days are harder than others but at the end, it all works out and i do get to spend quality time with them.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Cindyology story. Tell us more about the business.
I’m an organizing expert, some call it a professional organizer, but it’s all the same. We clean the clutter, organize and beautify spaces. We also use bins, baskets, canisters, labels, and even beautiful home decor items to complete the space. We teach and work with people on how to get rid of unwanted items, show them how to take advantage of their space and make it functional at the same time. Then they’re able to enjoy and keep the systems in place, so it’s easy to maintain.
My clients know that once I have organized space in their homes, they proudly show it off to their friends, knowing how good they feel about it afterward. I think that’s what sets me apart from other organizers. My labeling is also something different. I don’t use a regular labeler like others do. I usually do it by hand so each labeled space is unique.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
The industry has been growing rapidly thus getting us more working opportunities by getting the public educated and more products in the market as well.
I now own a company that employs more than ten members. Proud to say all women that love to change lives. I see it growing into other markets nationwide. I have a book coming out in September 2020, so I’m hoping my book can inspire others to get organized too. I’m also looking forward to gettin to grow my organizing product line.
