Today we’d like to introduce you to Christy Clark.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I was introduced to photography by my late grandfather Manuel. A prominent photographer in his hometown of Havana Cuba, he was forced to leave the only life he’d ever known behind to escape the emergent Castro Regime. Despite all that he gave up, he never lost his passion for viewing the world he was given through his own lens – a passion he passed on to me like a glowing torch.
I was about 9 years old when my grandfather gave me an old Nikon F3 he had that no longer worked. Of course, I didn’t care whether it actually took pictures or not. I was just excited to have a camera without a Barbie on the side of it. As it turns out, that “useless” camera was the single most significant thing that had happened in my young life – well, that and new kids on the block, but I digress. See, a single broken camera turned into a personal collection of vintage cameras, and naturally that collection led to a full-fledged photography business – thus Christy Clark Photography was born.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I wish I could say the process was all a breeze. However, as much as I love where my life and career have brought me, it did not by any means come easily. I worked for years in aviation and later elementary education to support what was at the time a “side hustle” or pipe dream, depending on who you may have asked. My first photo shoots were, in hindsight, lackluster to say the least, and I had to spend a long time not only perfecting my craft but convincing myself that I actually WAS good enough. Convincing myself that I WOULD make it if I just kept pushing forward. Luckily for me, my utter need to write my own checks outweighed any doubts that I or anyone else could throw my way.
Christy Clark Photography – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Christy Clark Photography is known for their in-home “lifestyle” photo shoots where we capture your family in their everyday moments. The comfort of having our subjects in their home comes through in our photographs and leads to gorgeous family photographs instead of awkwardly posed and outdated photographs a lot of the local competition offers. In addition to lifestyle images, Christy Clark Photography focuses on juxtaposing the beauty of our local natural elements with beautiful fashion to create our outdoor “glam” photo shoots.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Reaching the point where I could work for myself has done more to fulfill me than any of my accomplishments to date. As a woman, I am extremely proud to be a role model for other women who dream of starting their own business.
