Meet Christian Lima

Today we’d like to introduce you to Christian Lima.

Christian, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My relationship with music began when I was very young. I remember my father playing classic rock albums on my way home from school. That inspired me to want to start a band. I picked up the electric guitar and I’ve been playing for over 15 years now. The dreams of putting together a band never really took off. It was hard to find people who had the same ambitions as I did. I started writing songs while in High School. That’s when I started to get more in touch with my creative side. All along, my only intention was to be part of a band but never thought I would be the frontman. At the time, I just wanted to be part of the process without the pressure of being in charge.

After High School, I let go of the idea of ever starting a band as it was just holding me back. I decided to go solo and took up producing, I had a couple of friends who already had been producing for a while and they offered to help me get started. After I made my first decent-sounding beat, I showed it to them. After hearing it they added their touch to it. Next thing I knew messing around they asked me to hop on the mic, I jokingly sang something into the mic not being serious at all and they told me it actually wasn’t bad. That’s how my first song came about. Since that day, I decided to take the singer/songwriter route and haven’t looked back since.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Like anything worth working hard for, the answer is no. In this business, there are a lot of opportunities to be deceived and used. To be an artist and stay afloat, you have to have tough skin nowadays. As well as an independent artist, your main goal is always staying true to your vision and doing your best to bring it to life; however which way you can with as many resources as you can gather. Being independent, I realized I had to educate myself in the business and marketing aspect of the music business as well; and that has come with it’s learned lessons through trial and error. I’ve practically been my own manager since I started, I learned all the terms, how to read my own contracts, how to negotiate, how to weed out a bad opportunity from a good one, etc. A lot of opportunities to learn new skills from my mistakes and I’m thankful for all my experiences thus far. When you want it more than anything the work that comes with making music seriously means nonstop time in the studio, nights without sleep, sometimes you forget what day it is because you’re just so focused on the end goal

Can you give our readers some background on your music?
I’m a singer/songwriter, composer and multi-instrumentalist. As a musician, my specialty is obviously music. I’ve taken up creative directing as well for films and music videos. I’ve started to dabble into writing scripts, scores and stories. What I’m most proud of with my music is that I have built no walls as to what I like to make, I just do what I like so I would say I am most proud and known for my versatility as an artist.

I stand for the PleasantVille citizens who aren’t so pleasant, the outcasts, the “weird” kids. I don’t discriminate though. I’m open to people from all walks of life to listen to my music, my main goal is for my listeners to feel something when they listen to my music however they interpret it. My goal is to bring people together with my music, for people to realize that we all feel the same things and go through similar emotionally trying moments. Even non-outcasts have been outcasted or labeled a misfit at some point. The point is to connect people.
