Today we’d like to introduce you to Chiara De Luca.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Chiara. So, let’s start at the beginning, and we can move on from there.
I was born in Italy and raised between Italy, France and the US. I worked in the art and cinema world for a long time, in Paris and New York. I used to travel a lot, and my life was very hectic. It was in 2008, in Paris, that I discovered aqua cycling. The element of the water helped me center, relax and at the same time invigorated me I was hooked.
I moved to Miami in 2014 and was shocked to find that aquatic training was so sparse. I decided to open a studio dedicated to this magical element. At Element Aqua, we provide aquatic fitness classes that are both challenging and restorative in a boutique studio environment.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There were most definitely challenges along the way. The first was finding the ideal space for an indoor pool that also had natural light (a must) and then convincing a landlord to allow me to build a pool in their warehouse! Tony Cho was the one who saw the potential in the project, and we are now part of the Magic City build out, which is an amazing new neighborhood bordering Mimo and Lemon City. Then, there was the City of Miami, with its impossible permitting process. I was at the building department every day for pretty much a whole year. But we got the permits, and I learned so much in the process! In the end, it was all worth it: I love how the studio turned out! It’s a beautiful space, and it seems to make people very happy.
Please tell us about Element Aqua.
We are one of the first aquatic fitness studios in the whole country. We specialize in aquatic training that focuses on cardio, strength training, agility and flexibility, all in a completely safe environment where an injury is near to impossible. We offer a variety of group classes, including aqua cycling, aqua circuit, aqua boxing. We have a restorative aquatic series as well, where we offer Watsu treatments, aqua yoga, and floating meditation. We are passionate about our work, and we are rewarded every day when we see the positive impact that our work has on our clients.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Summers with my grandparents in Sardinia. I’d come home from a morning at the beach and wait for my hair to dry in the sun while my grandmother would cook pasta.
