Today we’d like to introduce you to Chelly Peyrefitte.
Hi Chelly, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
To be honest, I am just getting started, but I have been creating Art and writing as well as making music since I was a child. I went to Dillard’s school of the performing arts which nurtured and kind of honed my skills. Then while attending college, I had some potentially great opportunities which I passed on due to financial or domestic issues. I never really continued on an academic path, but being creative has always been my path from as far back as I can remember. It feels like destiny, though I’m nowhere near my intended destination. I’ve got a lot to do and show, I’m a work in progress.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I wouldn’t say it’s been smooth, I’ve had many struggles, both internal and externally. I’ve had many false starts and resets, I have been creating Art, making music, singing my heart out while I exercise my inner demons. Pouring my soul in to every lyric, hoping to reach that same place in others. I still struggle, but I have always managed to channel my struggles into my Art, my lyrics, my voice or really anything that I put my hands on or my mind to.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I do a lot of things, I have many creative outlets. I sing in a band called Red Flags and in another project called Blockbuster Night, in which I rap as well as sing. I write all of my original lyrics. I’m a performer, wether I’m painting or singing or creating anything, I’m performing for a target audience. I’m aiming for the heart of the listener. I want to lock eyes with the viewer and share that “I feel seen.” moment. I guess if I had to say I specialize in anything it would be connection. I want my music to be heard and felt, not just listened to. The same goes for my art or lyrics, any of my work. To be understood and understand, I want genuine connection and I feel a lot of art and music has more to do with style rather than substance or anything deeper than appearances.
Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
Oof! Not going to lie, my childhood was turbulent at best. However oddly enough I recently had a childhood memory surface that I found very pleasant and inspiring. When I was in the 8th grade, I was in a creative writing class, we were given an assignment to write a script for a short play, which if selected would be acted out by the students in the class. My script was chosen and I got to produce and direct my very own play. It was a lot of fun and it got a good response from students and faculty.
