Today we’d like to introduce you to Che Scott.
Hi Che, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I was born in Jamaica and moved to the United States. Growing up in West Palm Beach, I fell in love with sports and competed mostly in basketball throughout my high school years.
I played college basketball at Palm Beach State College, and then Football at the University of Miami, FL. It was during this time I met the team chaplains who helped me to embrace my faith–which directs all aspects of my life today.
Alright, let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what challenges have you had to overcome?
I don’t believe anyone truly has a “smooth” road through life. One person may be born into riches, but may struggle with their health or something else. One may attain early financial success but lose a loved one. So, I don’t think the key is to seek out, or expect an easy path. I believe more in learning how to navigate the path we’ve chosen or have been presented with.
My greatest challenges were dealing with bullying throughout my first years in America, but I learned to use that to help others who currently struggle with life and insecurities.
Today, I speak with youth, and share those early struggles, while challenging them to make positive deposits into the lives of their peers and within their circles of influence.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
In 2014, I began work on a project called the New Guy Code. It was a call to action for men to change how we view and treat women. During this time – I published a small book, The New Guy Code, which focused on sharing that message with teens and pre-teens. I followed that with this TEDX talk that expresses the core message. https://youtu.be/
Currently, I’m working to modernize the message, while including other honor-based principles, crucial for teen and pre-teen development.
The project will be released via audiobooks and visual albums.
More details to come!
What does success mean to you?
In my opinion, success is using what we have available to us to make the world better. Our world tends to attribute success to having wealth and possessions, but I think of success as the result of one’s greater impact on the world.
Success is a baby learning to walk, an addict turning their life around, an adult overcoming their childhood trauma, or whatever we do to make us or the world better.
