Today we’d like to introduce you to Chanel Cartel.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I started in the entertainment industry as a dancer about two years ago. Mind you, I wasn’t a dancer my whole life. I started dancing professionally, taking dance classes, at the age of 16. Before that, I use to teach myself how to dance in my living room by watching Matt Stefania dance tutorials on YouTube (what’s crazy is that I recently worked with him on set)! After that, I got my first big opportunity to dance in a Gucci Mane music video right after I graduated high school. I was able to get this opportunity from a girl who told me she couldn’t make it and asked me to fill in for her. This was one of the most exciting days of my life cause it was something I would have never imagine doing. Shortly after, I danced in Yo Gotti ft Nicki Minaj music video called “Rake it Up.” Since then, I’ve been constantly getting booked. I went from dancing/choreographing in festivals/videos/TV to modeling (being a lead girl) to now pursuing an acting career. I have done commercials for Burger King, Adidas, featured in a movie called “Beach Bum” and recently became SAG eligible! All of this just became an unexpected blessing to my life. With hard work & dedication, I was able to accomplish a lot in my life at only 20 years old. It’s been such a pleasure in meeting/networking with such great people who have helped me and pushed me to where I am now. After looking back at everything I’ve accomplished, it’s true that a dream is NEVER too big. Always remember that a closed mouth never gets fed.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
For the most part, it has been a smooth road. I guess because I’m cool with everyone I meet so there’s never any tension between me and anybody on set. It can be difficult sometimes because you got to ask yourself if this is something you really want to put your all in and make it a career or just for fun; these are long hours of work/training you’re doing. There have been times where I’ve cried over frustration or just being scared since this is a risk that I’m taking but, it’s either you go all in or you don’t, no in between. So, I would constantly remind myself every day this is something that I want to do and something that makes me happy. I’m doing this for me, nobody else.
Please tell us more about what you do, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I’m known as a hip-hop/heels dancer to most people since that’s how I started my career.
What I’m most proud of is how much effort I put into my career and seeing great results from it. Even with things I didn’t think would happen right now in my life has happened!
What sets me apart from others I would say is my drive and humbleness. I am constantly busy either on set, taking classes, making dances, learning new things, and I’m also a full-time student at FIU studying Business Marketing. I make sure I use up all my time to practice everything I need to know and keep working to stay connected in the industry. The type of person I am, I don’t really talk about things I do or artist I’ve worked with to people because I just want to make sure I keep working hard and God will keep blessing me with opportunities.
What is your favorite childhood memory?
My favorite memory is when all of my neighbors would come outside to play. Going from manhunt, to tag, chalk, or even just talking to each other and having a good time.
