Today we’d like to introduce you to Chanel Campbell.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Chanel. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
If someone would have told me in my freshman year of college that I would be in the creative design field I would have looked at them like they were crazy. What’s so crazy is I was a designer before I knew I was going to be a designer. I Created my 8th-grade graduation program and about three years ago I found it and said, “Oh wow! I was designing back then.” Granted it wasn’t the best thing, but that’s really when my career began I just never looked in that direction until my third year of college when I made the switch from sports medicine to a graphic design major. People thought that was crazy going from science to design, but deep down I had such an interest. And that interest is what led me to fully dive into the design field and now I’m here and I don’t regret the switch at all.
Once I finished undergrad, it became extremely hard to land a full-time career in design, so that’s what prompted me to start freelancing. Upon freelancing that led to many challenges, which we’re finding clients and actually running a business and staying afloat. After a few months, I decided to take on a full-time while running my freelance business. Now I currently run my creative business while working a 9-5 job, and I can say I’ve successfully have managed the joggling of bothering my daytime and freelance job. I don’t plan on staying incorporate for the rest of the career, but as they say, “one foot in front of the other.” So baby steps but I do think it’s important to have an end goal in mind to be sure that you are on the right track and ready to make that move when the time comes.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road hasn’t been easy, but I think the challenges that I faced is what makes me stronger in business and allows me to grow my business one day at a time. I think the struggle came with trying to build your clientele and in the design industry, there are so many other designers that you almost feel you are competing. When I originally started I did it all, a flyer here, logo here, anything design I did. I didn’t have a niche or main focus. It wasn’t until a few years in I realized common issues many businesses were having and it revolved around brand identity. So the struggles were contracts, gaining clientele, simply trying to understand what are the needs and how can I differentiate myself from others.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
I am the creative brand designer of Chanel Designz. I specialize in brand visual identity. My mission is to elevate brands through bold head turning designs. I intend to implement a fresh and eye-catching design that will help others reach their business goals and provide consistency within their brand. As a company, I’m proud to be able to be a guide for other small businesses, creatives, and entrepreneurs who don’t fully understand brand identity. When I turned my focus to Instagram it was and still is my goal to provide value to others, so they can better understand the meaning of brand identity and how important it is as a business for their brand to have consistency.
What sets me apart from others is my ability to focus solely on the brand, not just the logo, but the brand as a whole and be able to guide them step by step with valuable tips that they can carry with them through their business in the future. I like to tell peoples I’m the google for your their brand’s identity. You have a question about your brand identity, I’m here to provide those answers.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Optimism. In any type of business, it’s so important. I know there is much to achieve and much good in this world, and I know what’s worth fighting for. That ability to look at a situation and while it might be tough, you’re able to see around that corner and see the possibility…versus the difficulty. In my business it’s difficult, nothing about it is smooth, but whenever I reach a roadblock I think ahead and work my way around a situation.
