Today we’d like to introduce you to Catherine Arango and Mila Miskovic from SYRENA Swimwear.
Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
My best friend Mila and I recently launched our first ever luxury swimwear brand – Syrena Swimwear on May 6th, 2019.
Our mission began in April 2018 when we realized there was a gap in the luxury swimwear industry. We believe every detail matters and more than ever, shopping should be an experience. We wanted to create a brand that would encompass the complete package. At SYRENA, we are very passionate about elevating women to achieve everyday glamour and confidence while providing them with a luxurious and memorable journey.
By June of 2018, we started dealings with our manufacturer. By August 2018, we had officially incorporated our business, and by December 2018, we were in full production of our first collection. I think this well describes our ambitious nature. When we put our minds to something, we make it happen. We felt comfortable starting our business in the fashion sector because we have always had a passion for fashion and business. We’ve both been in sales for as long as we could remember. Being in sales, you really learn to adapt to different personality types and connecting with women is something that comes natural to us. We believe it’s important to come together as women, compliment each other, empower each other, and motivate each other. Working with Mila makes for a great work dynamic because we both share a strong enthusiasm to see SYRENA grow. We also have different areas of strength, which in turn allows us to compliment each other well as a team.
Please tell us about your art.
We design every element of our collection in Palm Beach, FL. We import the highest quality Italian fabrics and components to our manufacturing hub which is located in Medellin, Colombia – one of the top cities in South American fashion, specifically swimwear.
High-quality design and detailing is the heart of everything we do at SYRENA.
Every intricate element from our iconic monogram to our signature packaging was well calculated. Inspired by the goddess of the sea, our iconic mermaid monogram embodies the epitome of female beauty. This S icon resembles two mermaids empowering each other. As you may know, a mermaid is said to be the goddess of the sea, and Sirena means mermaid in Spanish. Not only do we believe all women are goddesses, this symbol also represents my best friend and I, two strong women coming together, supporting each other and building dreams together.

Choosing a creative or artistic path comes with many financial challenges. Any advice for those struggling to focus on their artwork due to financial concerns?
As an online brand, growing your social media platform can be a big challenge. It takes a lot of hard work, long hours, and networking. We are just starting out, but I think one of the main factors is being persistent and consistent. Starting a new business or idea is challenging in itself, but the key is to push yourself, educate yourself, and try – even when things get tough, don’t give up. In the end, it will all be worth it.

It’s going to take an army to grow our business; we appreciate our local community support! The best way for our community to support our work is by spreading the word! It’s through everyone’s voices that we will grow.
