Today we’d like to introduce you to Cam Rogers.
Hi Cam , we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My family moved to Fort Lauderdale in 1925. My great grandfather, Dwight L. Rogers Sr., founded the law firm with Mr. John E. Morris Sr. that I currently work at today. We just celebrated 100 years in business last year and we are the oldest law firm founded in Broward County that is still operating today. I went to law school at the Walter F. George School of law at Mercer University and graduated 102 years after my great grandfather graduated from that same school. I have been practicing law since 2012 and a few years into my career I decided to get my LL.M. in Estate Planning from the University of Miami School of law. I worked full time at Rogers, Morris & Ziegler LLP during my time in the LL.M. program for three years and obtained that degree in 2020. I have greatly enjoyed helping my clients with their Trust & Estate, business and real estate legal needs for my entire career. I am married since 2023 to my wife, Kelly Rogers, who now works at the firm as our operations manager. I have also had the privilege of working with my father, Romney Rogers, for my entire career and we are now business partners in the firm. We have a great team of partners, associates, paralegals and staff at Rogers, Morris & Ziegler LLP and it is a pleasure to continue on the century long legacy of serving our community.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I have been incredibly blessed in having a great supporting team throughout my career at Rogers, Morris & Ziegler LLP however it has not been an easy road. The practice of law is a field where you are always learning and improving. Sometimes if feels like you a drinking from a fire hose. One of the more challenging times of my career was when I was working full time at the law firm and going to school to obtain my LL.M. degree in Estate Planning from the University of Miami Law School. It was a blessing to be able to both work and obtain that degree over that three year time frame however it was stretching to say the least.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
My family moved to Fort Lauderdale in 1925. My great grandfather, Dwight L. Rogers Sr., founded the law firm with Mr. John E. Morris Sr. that I currently work at today. We just celebrated 100 years in business last year and we are the oldest law firm founded in Broward County that is still operating today. My practice area focus is Trust & Estates, real estate and business law. Our firm has been helping clients in these three areas of law for over 100 years. We assist clients in both transactional and litigation matters associated with those three areas of law. I am most proud of our brand for holding to our core values for over a century. Our core values are follow up follow through, attention to detail, service oriented, team mentality, excellence, respectful and trustworthy. We are blessed to stand on the shoulders of those generations before us that have embodied these core values and have built a reputation that can be trusted by our clients. We strive each day to uphold these values and keep the brand strong.
Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
I joined a four generation, century old law firm, so it does not appear that I was much of a risk taker in picking a law firm to work at, however, it is always a bit of a risk joining a family business and striving to carry on a law firm with such a long history. With every new generation there is a transfer of leadership and dreaming for the business and there is risk in making new decisions for the firm that have never been made before. The statistics are not very positive when it comes to the success rates of multi-generational businesses, but taking on the risk of failure has been a worthy cause and I am thankful to God for His protection and provision through-out my career and the generations before me and I am confident that He will continue to protect and provide for us going forward.
