Hi Meliza, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
When I was 5 years old, it all started scrabbling mom’s walls, and started a painting class with a teacher in Santiago Dominican Republic, back in 1995.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
No, it has not been, it never is. When you Let yourself be carried away by Art and its unique charms the first obstacle you find in the way to connect the standards of today’s society is stay to stay true to yourself by always working and evolving in your signature and techniques.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I express myself and my experience over time on walls, bodies, murals, and canvases. I use colors to get my ideas and creative thoughts across. I specialize in vibrant contemporary art on irregular surfaces like bodies. I am mostly known for creating or recreating scenes, ideas, or environments on bodies with limited resources or time. I like and enjoy interacting and getting to know others to better understand not only their ideas but also their personalities to be able to portray their thoughts or ideas through their eyes. I’m extremely proud of the journey and the personalities I’ve had the opportunity to create on blank canvases. My connection to color, Latin culture, and family would really set me apart from others.
What do you think about happiness?
Family would be the best word to use when happiness comes to mind. My artistic capabilities and even ideas I owe them to my mother alone. She is the true artist in the family. That aside, my drive and motivation is my family. They make me a better person and bring colors to my life.
