Today we’d like to introduce you to Bruce Feingold.
Bruce, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
My first job was in a bakery, washing dishes and decorating cookies with sprinkles and frosting. New Jersey native, Feingold began cooking at an early age at 13. When I was just 17, I attended the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, New York. I graduated at 19 in 1990.
Over the years, I spent time with private clubs and some local restaurants in 1996, I opened my first business called Truce Bakery. After selling my bakery, I went back into private country clubs before meeting up with Scott Frielich and Rodney Mayo to open Dada June 2000.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Well, there are your normal bumps in the road with any career, I just worked through them and continued on worked hard.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
The idea behind the name Dada is based on — as the name suggests — Dadaism, an art movement that celebrated everything anti-war and anti-establishment, that whole radical left. So, you’ll see a lot of the decor inside has a very anti-art theme, and each room has a different ambiance. We took a lot of time to come up with a unique concept that fit this building. I am most proud of building the place with our hands We were here day and night knocking down walls and sanding down the floors. We built this entire place from front to back.
As for specializing the food is modern American with a classical back round with a twist.
What were you like growing up?
LOL, I was a hyper child as I have been told by my mother and sisters. I wrestled for 11 years form 6 years old to 17. I had interests in sports and cooking. Although, in school I took years of art classes, printing, business marketing and others but always was cooking outside of school. I am a big hockey fan of New Jersey Devils and Football Chicago Bears.
