Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittney N. Toribio.
Brittney, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
While transitioning out of my eight-year Army Career, I decided to travel around the world. I became very intrigued with the healing powers of natural herbs in many countries that I have had the pleasure of visiting. With my newly gained knowledge, I decided to create the Toribio Healing House, a peaceful place to enjoy organic and wildcrafted herbs, roots and extracts and much more! I specifically chose to plant our roots of business on the historic Parramore Avenue in downtown Orlando. With all the gentrification going on, I wanted to make sure that we kept something authentic in our community that was not only positive but uplifting.
I suffered with PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome) for many years, which led to my journey of studying herbal medicine. I remember being told that I would suffer from this pain for the rest of my life from military doctors! I had to make a change. At 29 years old, I couldn’t imagine myself in and out of the hospitals for the rest of my life or having my uterus removed. The idea of developing The Toribio Healing House, LLC, was to not only help others heal but to continue to heal myself. I knew I needed a career that would me to do so, so I became my own boss.
Along with my studies, I picked up the gift of Tarot reading and have had great joy in helping others connect deeper spiritually. I have had the honor to spread knowledge and light of my spiritual practices of Ifa and have had the honor to bring a great deal of comfort to others in the community. At Toribio Healing House, we offer a wide variety of services such as Tarot Readings, Divination with Ifa Readings, Classes, Paint & Sip, Cold Pressed Juices, Smoothies and much more!
Along with the Healing House, I have also founded The Toribio Foundation. Founded on the idea of supporting vulnerable children through both their mental health and education. While we believe that education is a key player in a child’s development, we cannot ignore that their environment plays a huge role in their ability to receive learning. The Toribio Foundation holistically supports its children, by covering not only education fees, but also, accommodation, and meals both Domestic and Abroad. The foundation aims to support a child, in its own way, as a parent would. Help us support these children as they grow up and lead the next generation.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It wasn’t easy by any means. I had to use all of my savings to start. But I made a plan and I trusted the Universe. I knew what I had to make in order to keep my store afloat and I did just that. I barely slept for six months leading up to the grand opening of my business. My husband would wake up at 2 am or 3 am and find me in the kitchen studying and planning for this.
I opened during COVID 19. A time when most businesses were closing all around me. But my spirit said to do this, build it and they will come. So I opened my doors on March 15th.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about The Toribio Healing House – what should we know?
The Toribio Healing House, LLC, is a herbal shop. We specialize in a wide variety of Herbs. We also featured a large inventory of many spiritual items as well. Taking pride as a well known metaphysical shop as well. We offer a wide variety of juices and smoothies.
I also do Tarot readings and Divination with Ifa readings, while my mother Carolyn Harding hosts a beautiful Paint & Sip! The paint and sips are non-alcoholic. We use that time to serve and teach about healing herbs! We also host a wide variety of other classes as well!
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
My mother had always told me that I could do anything with my life, as long as it makes me happy, it will be successful. My dream was to embark on this path of business ownership with her. This experience and journey of sharing this business with my mother has meant the world to me. I feel so complete.
My husband, Arismendy Toribio, has been supporting me and telling me I can do this from the day I gave him the idea. He is also the one who handmakes all of our natural soaps!
My children show great pride in what we have created. They give me the opportunity to work and focus on building my dream. As a business owner, I am away from home a lot and my children have adapted to the changes so well. Keyorri (9) and Jameel (7).
