Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittany Wheeler.
Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
I am 25 years old currently, I live with my mom, and it has been just us for the past 16 years. My dad passed away when I was nine years old. My father was a big part of my life. Him and I were best friends. Even at that young age, I recognized that he treated me like the princess I was, and it was the hardest thing to deal with growing up. I actually never got comfortable with even talking about him without crying up until a couple of years ago. Nevertheless, I feel grateful that I still have my mom in my life and she has played a big role in developing the woman I am today. Because of certain circumstances, we were all we had so we were kind of pushed (lol). “Inspired” is a better way to say – to be close and to develop a healthy relationship with each other. From this relationship, we’ve birthed our small business called Not Your Typical Power Couple, where we inspire and help motivate other mothers and daughters to understand their positions and purpose in the mother-daughter dynamic.
Please tell us about your art.
One of the things that I do is dance! I took classes when I was younger, and it was something that has helped me cope with all that goes on because my focus is in the moment. I am the Director of the dance ministry at my church, and I also teach dance during summer at a camp. Dance is my sense of freedom from responsibilities, and my opportunity to express what’s on my heart. It’s the one time where my mind is not going a mile a minute and the one time where I can be at peace. Everyone has their way of processing and dealing. Mine is to put on music and just move. It’s a non-judgment zone and sense of liberation for me.
