Meet Brittany Hartt

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittany Hartt.

Brittany Hartt

Hi Brittany, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Brittany Hartt Designs began as a personal project after the arrival of my first daughter, a time when I was grappling with changes in my personal identity. Seeking a creative escape, I started with a Janome sewing machine, crafting diaper covers and newborn hats. As my passion for sewing deepened, I ventured into more intricate patterns and styles, eventually creating pieces for friends and family.

What began as a hobby gradually transformed into a small business. The business took a significant leap forward in 2020, following the stillbirth of my second daughter, Hayden. During this challenging period, sewing became not only a coping mechanism but also a path to refining my skills. I now manage my business full-time, having expanded my equipment and the variety of clothing styles I offer.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Brittany Hartt Designs didn’t achieve success overnight. As with many small businesses, we’ve encountered numerous challenges along the way. It took several years to hone my skills and develop a distinctive personal style.

During the COVID pandemic, I had to scale back my involvement with the business due to my full-time commitments at the hospital. Currently, 95% of our sales are driven by social media and organic growth. However, we are facing challenges with low visibility on these platforms and are exploring alternative strategies to reach the right audience.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Brittany Hartt Designs focuses on producing small-batch children’s clothing for ages 0-14. Renowned for unique styles across various knit fabric bases, our clothing line emphasizes comfort and durability. We use high-quality fabrics that are custom-printed in the United States, aiming to craft memorable outfits for special moments.

In addition to our seasonal collections, we also create custom outfits tailored to any occasion. Our made-to-order approach allows us to adjust patterns to accommodate different sizes, shapes, and specific medical access needs.

What do you think about happiness?
Building a brand that crafts clothing children adore and feel confident in is incredibly rewarding. As a mother of two daughters, there’s no greater joy than seeing their smiles when they wear their favorite dresses and feel beautiful. The ability to balance raising my daughters with growing my business is truly the greatest gift.
