Meet Brianna Faith Rivers

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brianna Faith Rivers.

Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
Growing up, I was raised between Florida and our family farm in Iowa, so I was always around nature and animals. At one time, we had pigs, chickens, horses, ferrets, cats, dogs, reptiles, our house was like a zoo and I loved every minute of it! They all taught me so much, but the ones who taught me the most were the horses. Working alongside an animal that big and powerful is an experience like no other. They humble you. They teach you discipline, communication, and resilience. It is these principles that have allowed me to accomplish what I have in life. I have lived through some horrible situations. I know the darkness that exists in this world. I’ve seen it first hand and I’ve seen it through the eyes of others. I truly believe the foundation of principles that working with horses gave me, helped me to push through and overcome any adversity I was faced with. Because when you fall off a horse, you always have to get back on… and I have fallen off a lot of horses! If I gave up, I would have missed out on so many adventures riding through the woods. If I had let the fear of falling paralyze me, I would have never known the freedom of racing down a waterway at full speed. I guess you could say life is like a horse, there will be bad rides, but at the end of the day you can’t give up on it… because a good ride is always right around the corner.

Please tell us about your art.
I create art through paintings, performances, photographs, and writings. I can’t be confined to one medium, the way my mind processes ideas never stays in one form, and my passions follow that.

I mainly utilize compositions of animals and the human figure to give tangible form to otherwise etherial concepts. This combination explores ideas from my research about mysticism and religion with visual elements derived from my dreams and history.

My work is inspired by inter and intrapersonal psychology, experiences from childhood, and social and personal anxieties. Art is how I see the world, and art is the way I am able to perceive the experiences and reality around me. So through my explorations, I hope others are able to gain a new perspective and new way to process their own experiences and create a better understanding for themselves.

Choosing a creative or artistic path comes with many financial challenges. Any advice for those struggling to focus on their artwork due to financial concerns?
I believe the most important thing is to not put yourself into a box. You need to stay open to all possibilities and opportunities that arise. Though it may not be your end goal, all opportunities you take are a chance to learn, grow, and acquire new skills! It is also very important to be proactive. Right now we live in a time where the world is at our fingertips thanks to the internet. There are so many ways you can market yourself, find calls to artist, residencies, and grants. Truly it is an amazing time to be on an artistic path.

How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
People can see my work on my website, Facebook page, or Instagram. People can support by attending exhibitions, which I will keep updated on my website through the mailing list, and social media. They can also support by requesting commissions… and buying work of course!
