Today we’d like to introduce you to Brian Forte.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Brian. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I was born in Kingston, Jamaica, which had a great impact on my creativity because of our colorful culture. From a very young age, I took to different art mediums, always exploring which one I liked or which I am best at lol. I finished high school in Jacksonville Florida then attended FAU. During my last year of college, I picked up the camera and fell in love. It has been about six years of me shooting and I’ve shot it all. Landscape, events, portraits, you name it, but my favorite would definitely be portrait photography.
The reason being, you get to connect with your subject and everyone has a story. During the time of the shoot, you can engage in discussing different experiences you have each had, and through this, you bring out their truths, A.K.A. the money shot. So, it has become a passion of mine to photograph people one on one and really tell their story through pictures.
Has it been a smooth road?
It has definitely not been a smooth road getting to the point I am at now. Being able to have people look at my work and get excited to work with me has been a huge accomplishment of mine and it only recently started happening. Just like every creative, at the beginning of their career, you struggle to find yourself and what it is that will set you apart. So, there is that hump to get over. In order to get over that hump, you will have to try many things, even things you don’t like because it is all part of the process. So, for a while, I was doing every type of shoot I could do and never saying no, which became exhausting. It is difficult to be your best when doing something you are not interested in. That started happening and my work suffered, so I started focussing on types and styles of shooting I enjoy the most. This forced me to become the photographer I want to be and develop my own style.
We’d love to hear more about your work.
I am a photographer, I like to documents vibes for people to hold onto. It is as simple as that! So I capture moments, anything worth holding onto. Currently, I am known for my passion, living in Miami it can be difficult to be unique with your style of photography as there are so many photographers. So, I like to claim my eye instead of my style, we are all copying each other’s styles, lol. (Nothing wrong with that.) But use your eye to put a spin on it. As a creative, I am most proud of my inspiration for others. I have gotten three of my closest friends to join the film life.
How do you define success?
This is a simple question, success is being able to do what YOU want to do at any given time. When you are able to follow that, you are successful.
