Today we’d like to introduce you to Brian Altamar.
Brian, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Growing up I was always into clothing and the culture of street wear. So that attracted me to find and be found by a lot of people in that same realm. Having strong connections and friendships that trusted me was how I began to style a couple of artists and throughout that journey, I never really intended on making a brand because I didn’t have the resources nor the money to make one. In styling you see many different brands and styles and so I felt it was time to do my own thing. That’s when ALTAMAR was birthed. As I was preparing to launch my clothing brand, before release date my first collaboration was already in the works: ROLLING LOUD: The biggest hip-hop festival in the world! After the launch of my brand, which focuses on reconstruction work, I wanted to take it further than just an “Instagram” brand. And few months later, my brand was inside one of the most successful streets inspired stores in Miami: Shoe Gallery. All to stay, my start was no lineage of business success tracing down to me but I’m just a man who loves style and culture that God has allowed to be used.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Nothing good comes easy, in my belief. I didn’t finish college nor interned and shadowed under someone successful, everything has been a learning curve. The biggest struggle is that as a creative, it’s hard to organize my ideas. I can at times get too caught up in creating but then lack the logistics of execution. I have a team of individuals who have helped tremendously!
Please tell us about your business.
Repurposing a piece of clothing is a lifestyle. ALTAMAR focuses on reconstruction pieces such as turning a t-shirt into shorts and turning a bandana into a button up shirt. Every designer provides a unique identity of how they see life, so clothes is an expression of their vision and I’m providing how I would like life to be formed and molded. I admire a lot of designers and believe my brand is just my form of expression. Throughout every collection, I want to express a different feeling or emotion of what I’m experiencing or how I perceive people to be styled at that time.
