Today we’d like to introduce you to Brandy Lynn Magill.
So, before we jump into specific questions about artwork, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I began painting very young, and as a student art was the only thing I connected to the most. I have a dreamy wandering mind. I studied at the Art Institute for Fashion but soon realized I COULD make a career out of being a painter. I transferred to the Academy of Art University for a degree in Painting. I apprenticed under a few artists, worked at the Art and Cultural Center in Hollywood and developed a love for museum and gallery programs. I held a job in a few galleries around South Florida. After becoming a mother, I was accepted into Artist Residency in Motherhood. My appreciation for the open mind of children and those with special needs grew and decided to go back to school to become an art teacher for special needs, I will be wrapping that up soon. I love working with children and those who cannot verbally express things easily because they too find their love of art and creativity. I want to support my community and make the world a better place, using art as the foundation.
Has it been a smooth road?
It has not been a smooth road, I decided late in my life that I wanted to become a full-time artist. I decided late to because of a special needs art teacher. As every artist know the struggle to do your craft, talent, passion, energy focus, is expensive. But you make it work to help change lives and communicate. I communicate with color.
What do you do? What do you specialize in?
I play with color, I love blue. I love the texture. I use acrylic, pens, papers, spray paint, gold leaf, anything to express the emotion.
My focus is pulled from nature and making it abstract. An aleatoric method. Letting the painting form on its own being driven by the color palate I feel deep in my soul.
Any predictions for the industry over the next few years?
I want to develop more interactive art. I think we have so much technology developing, why not use this to our advantage. But also incorporate art you can touch. Not everyone is on the same page as you mentally, but you can make art accessible to everyone on different pages. Texture, Braille, Technology, Sounds, these things can really help art reach everyone.
