Today we’d like to introduce you to Brandon Baez.
Hi Brandon, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I was born in Chicago but raised in Miami since I was four years old by Cuban and Puerto Rican parents. Ever since I was a little kid, I knew I was different than the rest of the bunch. Gratefully, so did my family. I am very blessed and very privileged to come from a loving and supportive upbringing. I came out as gay when I was about 16 years old, just as I wrapped up my junior year of high school. Living as my true self is really all I ever want to do, and I continuously encourage everyone to do the same every single day!
I found my love for acting and the performing arts during high school. It did take me a little bit to come around to it, but a little bit after I started my MBA in 2018, I finally admitted that acting was what I am meant to do with my life. I finished school of course, but from that point forward, I have been honing my craft. Up until most recently, I have found myself acting in several short films that are currently making their way through the international film festival circuit. I am immensely proud so far. I couldn’t have imagined where I am right now, even just a year ago.
And I am just getting started.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I am actually happy to say that life has been a smooth road with a few significant bumps along the way. At this moment, I am proud to say that I am in the best place I have been in years, but allow me to explain the gist of it.
When I was 18, I was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis, which eventually developed into Lupus. I have had a lot of really high ups and very low downs with my condition, but the one thing I will never do is let it define me. I have been through countless medications, plenty of chemotherapy sessions throughout the years, and even been through weekend hospital stays. Admittedly, these had been very low points for me in my life. My physical appearance took a massive toll, which was honestly the roughest part of it all, considering my profession.
But even when the chips were down, I kept telling myself over and over that my struggles are always temporary and that in the end, I will always end up better than I was before.
And lo’ and behold: here I am now! Better than ever, and extremely proud of myself for overcoming what at the time, I thought was impossible.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am an up-and-coming film and television actor. At the moment, I am continuously honing my craft by participating in a variety of short films and other creative projects, basically anything that I can get my hands on! I am relatively new to the industry, and I am constantly looking for opportunities to grow and meet amazing artists along the way. My peers always inspire me to never stop learning.
While I am open to participating in every film genre, I have most recently found myself working with dramatic/tragic roles, which is something that has proved a significant breakthrough for me as an artist. At first, the tragic roles sounded intimidating, but I never back down from a challenge. That’s really what makes all of this fun.
As an actor, I am most proud of simply having the opportunity to reach others through acting and film. If I can make my audience connect with me and my art on an emotional level, whether they laugh, cry, feel inspired, or even have critiques, it makes me feel privileged to connect with people on a multitude of levels.
Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
I am always looking for my next project! If anyone is interested in working with me, simply feel free to contact me through social media. I am admittedly pretty good at answering messages.
