Today we’re excited to introduce you to Brandee Betancourt. Brandee is an Event Planner & Stylist and is also a content partner. Content partners help Voyage in so many ways from spreading the word about the work that we do, sponsoring our mission and collaborating with us on content like this. Check out our conversation with Brandee below.
Hi Brandee, so great to have you join us again. For folks who might have missed our earlier conversations, can you please take a minute to briefly introduce yourself?
I am Brandee, founder of Eventful Skies & Design. Being a mother to 3 children and deriving from a creative background, I decided to launch an outlet that eventually became a small business. We are an event styling and décor group, specializing in balloon art and floral design. We accommodate all budget ranges and execute all event types within South Florida.
What makes Eventful Skies & Design different from all other event planners and decorators in your area?
How we differ from other event professionals is by catering 100% to our customers. ESD can relate to our customers in that we want beautiful and memorable events, however we want them at a reasonable rate. Our designs are trendy, created with love and customized to our clients budget should they have one in mind. We do not sugar coat it! Our decor and designs are without limits, meaning we can provide all that you can imagine but together we can make sure it’s what you can afford. It really builds a trust factor and allows our clients to know we’ve got their backs, should they decide they’ll hire us again. 9/10 they do!
How do you maintain a good work/life balance?
I never imagined this is where I’d be. Raising three amazing kids, maintaining a household and being an entrepreneur are my main priorities but I’ve learned that none of that is possible without me being mentally, physically and spiritually present. So I make sure to focus on my breathing, be self aware, manage my schedule accordingly, communicate effectively and make every minute of each day count. My favorite is taking the day off after each event this way I spend it with family doing something we all cherish. After all, they are the reason ESD exists.
What makes an event successful and how do measure that success?
It’s the good planning from the very beginning to the clients reaction at last. Most may say, “why hire an event planner when you can just do it yourself “. I beg to differ. After many celebrations of family and friends, I realized quickly event planning and decorating was a business of its own. There are lots of details, time and efforts that go into coordinating a party. When a client ultimately smiles and is happy with the results as if it’s more than they could’ve imagined, I know I’ve succeeded. Thereafter, when clients book repeatedly, then we become loyal to each other and I couldn’t be happier with the avenue I’ve chosen of becoming a small business owner in the event industry.
How do you negotiate with third- party vendors?
One thing we take pride on for sure, is our years of partnerships and relationships with our vendors. Third party vendors that exhibit the same passion, purpose and professionalism as you do is hard to come across. We negotiate with good business and loyalty. We have accumulated a list of vendors based on categories, budget scopes, locations and client needs.
Have you ever dealt with a difficult client? In what ways were they difficult and how did you handle the situation?
In particular, not exactly. All clients are unique and some in fact become friends. Generally, we’ve come in contact with indecisiveness and as the clock waits for no one, we become more stern but with effective communication, honesty and understanding, we all come to decisions for the best interests of our clients and their spectacular event.
Are there any event types you find particularly interesting or exciting to plan?
Absolutely! All events are fun, otherwise I’d relocate my family to Orlando to make we visit a theme park each week with our annual passes. Putting these events together, is a dream. No event is too small or large. As a creative, our favorites (and the ones that turn out without a hitch) are the ones where we are allowed creative freedom. This of course, has to be the clients decision and we do not take the responsibility lightly. We are always so grateful!
It was so great to reconnect. One last question – how can our readers connect with you, learn more or support you?
We have social media pages, primarily marketing from our Instagram page @eventfulskiesanddesign. On our page, you have access to view our most recent works, upcoming projects, contact information, daily routines, and a link to book with us. It’s a New Client Questionnaire. It’s simple and gathers the basic details we need before contacting you for an initial consultation. Because of course, we are excited you’d entrust us with such a special day and moment in your life!
