Meet Alex Deoliveira of Body Alchemy Fitness in Fort Lauderdale

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alex Deoliveira.

Alex, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I have been a personal/group trainer in the fitness industry going on a decade now. I acquired my trainer’s certification through NFPT as well as a number of others certifications including Partner-Assisted Stretch and Nutrition. After all this time I still see myself pursuing a life of fitness for years to come. I truly love and enjoy helping others lose body fat, gain muscle, and build confidence with their bodies inside and out of the gym.

I started my taking training seriously at the age of seventeen. A friend and I both enrolled in our local gym and decided to start working. After the first day, I never stopped going, while my friend, never stepped into the gym again.

In the next few years, I’d do my own research, trying to learn as much about fitness as possible while juggling multiple bartending jobs in downtown Fort Lauderdale. Eventually getting sick of the nightlife, I took my trainers certification and begin working for a public gym as a trainer. Living a double life between 2 jobs with completely different schedules soon took a toll and I gave up bartending to pursue a full-time career as a private trainer running my own business.

Since then I have not looked back a bartending. I began truly taking diet and nutrition seriously and my results were instantly jumpstarted. I decided to compete in my first bodybuilding competition and have gone on to do another 8 competitions in the following 4 years and winning a number of first, second, and third place trophies. With experience comes knowledge gained and over the course of time, bodybuilding has truly helped me understand all aspects of nutrition. With that, I’ve passed my knowledge on to my clients and they are more than grateful for the results.

Fitness is my calling and I love every aspect of it. Whether it is competing in a bodybuilding competition, organizing a team for a Spartan mud race every year, writing my weekly fitness newsletter to keep my clients and friend informed, or sitting down with a private client after our session to really explain to them nutrition and the inner working of it. There is nothing I’d rather do.

Has it been a smooth road?
As with everything, no road is smooth. I’ve been grateful for all I’ve accomplished and any bump in the road I take as a lesson.

My most difficult struggle was two years into my training career. Tearing my rotator cuff and going through the surgery and recovery is something I will never forget. 8 months of no training might as well have been a jail sentence. Once I did start Training clients again it was just more a reminder of my limitations. Seeing clients workout made me restless to get back into it myself. Eventually, my time came and since then I make no mistakes.

After all, is said and done, it’s made me a better trainer. Knowing what I’ve done wrong in the past helps me utilize the proper form and correct way to train. And of course, I go on to share that knowledge with all of my clients.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
I established Body Alchemy Fitness in 2008 because I wanted to build a brand the represented what I do and give Knowledge and Guidance to those seeking it. I train my clients like I train. I tell my clients to eat how I eat. And I tell them Why. Something that most trainers forget to explain.

Form is everything and my mistakes I’ve made are reminders for all my clients. I utilize tempo, and form, instead of heavyweights to isolate the muscle which not only will help you to respond better but keep you healthy and injury free. My one-on-one training is my core style of training and my main focus. The attention to detail in one of my sessions is second to none.

I like to incorporate interval training with the client so I offer a Boot Camp 4 times a week. This helps build a “Fit Fam” and keeps clients accountable with my other boot campers. It’s a great way to get your cardio in and make friends with the same fitness goals all at a very affordable price.

I’m not just your trainer for the next 6 months or even a year. I want to be your teacher and guide on everything fitness for the rest of your life. I want you to take everything I show you and utilize it for years to come. To use it to live a healthier life in a body you’re comfortable with. Yes, the results we get are important. But we are not here for instant results. My clients come to me for life-long transformations.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
I love Fort Lauderdale and I feel like there is a ton of opportunity out here to build a great career in the fitness industry. With the weather being the way it is, people care about how they look.

Especially during beach season. Which in Florida is year round! So yes. I would highly recommend Fort Lauderdale as a great place to pursue a career in fitness.
