Meet Billy Ruiz of Cami Salon & Spa in Miami Beach

Today we’d like to introduce you to Billy Ruiz.

Billy became an assistant to Cami, the owner of Cami Salon in the Bal Harbor Shops at the age of 18. He learned everything from his mentor Cami and at the age of 25 he went on to work in Stella Salon on South Beach. He became the Master Colorist, and perfected his trade. In 2008, Billy proudly opened up his own salon, Cami Salon & Spa in honor of his late mentor.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The beauty business is not the easiest industry, and the road to our success has been very rocky. In this industry, one must learn not only how to deal with each and every client, but also learn how to deal with all the employees. There are many challenges that we went thru with our co-workers, from jealousy to stealing. But at the end we have become a very strong family and plan to continue our growth in this industry.

Please tell us about Cami Salon & Spa.
I am known in this industry as one of the best hair colorist. I specialize in color correction and in beach blondes. I have a clientele list that includes from entrepreneurs to A-list artists. Cami Salon is a specialty salon, we have strict colorists and hair stylists. We specialize so that we can be the best in one trade. For the past 9 years we have maintained and continue to grow and have become one of the best salon’s in South Beach. We are proud to be known in the industry as having Billy Ruiz, the top Master Colorist.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
If we had to start over we would do it all the same. We are very blessed to have had the opportunity to own our business, to maintain it and to continuing growing. We were also very fortunate that we own the property where Cami Salon is located so we will stay open for many more years to come.
