Meet Bianca Mehnert of Biancam Studios in West Palm Beach

Today we’d like to introduce you to Bianca Mehnert.

Bianca, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started learning about photography in high school when I took it as an elective. It was during the era of MySpace so I was interested in being able to take good photos. It didn’t take long to consider it as a serious profession since I had always been intrigued by album covers, movie posters, and celebrity portraiture. In high school, there were art school recruitments that introduced themselves but I was attracted most to The Art Institute. By my junior year of high school, I had enough credits to graduate early so I did and immediately began my college career that summer (2010). In 2014 I graduated with my Bachelor’s of Science in Photography from The Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale and that opened the doors to working with industry professionals.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
There are several factors that I think haven’t made this ride as smoothly as others. One, being a woman photographer, comes with its own obstacles of trying to not only prove yourself as worthy but being valued financially as much as male photographers are. Second, I come from a lower-middle-class family, which made it difficult to turn a dream into a functioning reality and that is something I am still working very hard to change. The last challenge would be the most obvious and relatable struggle and that is staying true to yourself even if some people do not believe in you. As a business owner that is in an industry requiring self-expression, it is difficult balancing the two in a way that does not mix my personal life with my professional career.

We’d love to hear more about your work.
I am a professional photographer specializing in branding, portraits, and events. My company is known for delivering high-quality images with a “Vogue” like quality. My clients love working with me because they feel like they’re working with a friend and they receive images that are magazine quality. What sets me apart from others is my inclusivity. Aside from paying jobs, I absolutely love capturing history. I have an immense amount of respect for the arts and culture that West Palm Beach has to offer and I believe some of the most talented and successful people in the world reside here. I try really hard also. My company is deeply committed to making a positive impact in Palm Beach County. Also, as a woman with a rich and mixed ethnicity, I believe my company offers an atmosphere that is right for anyone.

What were you like growing up?
When I was younger, I was most likely at my arts and crafts desk. I was not into recreational activities or socializing. At a younger age, I didn’t feel like I connected with most people because my family was so different. I think I preferred to be my own friend than go through the possibility of being ridiculed for being different.
