Meet Beca Castel

Today we’d like to introduce you to Beca Castel.

Please tell us about your art.
I’m a professional artist that specializes in custom paintings and murals for homes, businesses & commercial properties in South Florida. After several years of pursuing the traditional route of showcasing in galleries and big art exhibitions, I saw a demand. There was a high demand in the market for artists to create custom pieces. I’ve been blessed to be skillful enough to be versatile in many different mediums. This has allowed me to fulfill most of my client’s needs. An art piece can be very personal and unique to a person. I have the ability and skills to recreate the client’s vision. It is really rewarding to be part of that process and see the client’s vision come to life.

Gold: the color of success, abundance, and luxury, is the primary element of my artwork. It’s an element that I always try to incorporate into my clients’ pieces. The inspiration for using that color came to me a few years ago when I was at one of my lowest times. I was struggling as an artist to find my signature style and look. As I was ready to give up, my mother told me a significant story that changed my whole perspective.

She told me that when I was in her belly she went to a very spiritual lady for guidance. The lady told her that her child would play a very significant role in leading the next generation. She also told her that everything that your daughter will touch would turn “into gold”.

That was my “aha” moment. That story fueled my inspiration and gave me that push to incorporate gold in all of my pieces. Even my signature on a clients painting is a gold emblem seal of my monogram.

In the past 3 years, I’ve been able to create custom artwork for clients across the United States, Canada, Europe, and South America. Some of my clients include Monster Energy Inc, Baptist Hospitals & SLS Hotels South Beach. My murals and paintings have been featured at Art Basel Miami, The Miami News Times and on the walls of Wynwood.

What do you think about conditions for artists today? Has life become easier or harder for artists in recent years? What can cities like ours do to encourage and help art and artists thrive?
The art world is changing. It is, of course, a reflection of the times. I believe artists now have a better grasp and control over exposing their artwork to the public. Through, website, social media, YouTube you don’t have to be bounded to a gallery anymore. I’ve seen artists succeed without ever being showcased in a gallery. Most of my clients have found me on social media or have been referred by previous clients. That says a lot when you have created paintings for people around the world.

As a woman, it is still difficult to be recognized and taken seriously both by the public and the clients. Being a young woman still poses challenges as you step into this very male-dominated industry. You are more prone to being exploited and taken advantage of. There is a whole other side of the art world that no one likes to talk about…the dark side of the industry. However, that is another story for another time.

Despite the adversity that I continue to face being a women artist I still have been able to achieve great success. In the past 3 years, I’ve been able to create custom artwork for clients across the United States, Canada, Europe, and South America. Some of my clients include Monster Energy Inc, Baptist Hospitals & SLS. Hotels South Beach. My murals and paintings have been featured at Art Basel Miami, The Miami News Times and on the walls of Wynwood.

I have proudly achieved all of this by myself with no help from any gallery or “art manager”. In today’s age, the Internet is your gallery. As an artist, you have more power now to create your fate than ever before. As long as you believe in yourself and stay persistent the world will always be your canvas.

It is much easier to make it in the art world now than ever before. However, Internet marketing plays a huge part in this. From my own personal experience, I have seen that the artists who promote themselves heavily online are much more successful. This is contrary to those who stick with traditional ways of marketing such as exhibiting in the high-end galleries or hiring art managers. This is one of the reasons why I pursued a Masters degree in Internet Marketing and it has made a profound difference in my business.

I believe we should continue to create an environment where art becomes more than a picture on a wall … the wall becomes the picture. Wynwood’s Art District is a great place for this. I hope this area continues to grow and the art keeps flowing out of the white wall space of the galleries. I feel like on to the streets it will be much more appreciated and cherished. Art is not what you look at, it is what you feel and experience. That is the true essence of art.

How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
You can be up to date with my latest pieces on Instagram and on Facebook. I love to keep my followers up to date with my latest work and bring them into the process of creating a masterpiece. Also, if you pass by the Wynwood Art district you may be able to spot a giant mural of a golden bombshell with Raybands. This is one of my proudest pieces! It brings me great joy when I have people from across the globe take super creative pictures with my mural and tag me in it. Makes me feel that my art is being appreciated and loved by the public. People can support my work by following me on my social platforms and sharing any content that they like.
