Meet Barry Haimo of Haimo Law

Today we’d like to introduce you to Barry Haimo.

Hi Barry, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I’m a business school, computer science techy that went to law school and earned a masters in taxation. I am passionate about business and took every business class and estate planning class possible in law school. After school, I started off in private practice with a boutique firm, but went on to start my own firm in 2010. I’m involved in many other ventures in a variety of capacities including GC and investor and advisor. I even started and sold a software company. Through my educational background and hands-on experience, I have a unique lens in which I help people in estate, trust and business matters, and serving clients in this capacity is one of my favorite things.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Few roads are smooth. My firms grew organically since inception. Covid was challenging for our NY office because it was just starting out. Ultimately, being involved in many companies in various capacities, and running two law firms while raising a family is quite the juggling act. It requires focus and supreme organization, but I get it done and enjoy the journey.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Haimo Law ?
We have a boutique practice, focusing exclusively on trusts, estates, probate, and business matters from formation to succession and exit. We work with people of modest means to high net worth families’ tax planning, but In all cases we pride ourselves on giving great advice, documentation and service. I pride our firm on being personable, responsive and reasonably priced (and flexible). We dive deeper into clients’ livers, and put in the time to really connect. That enables us to understand deeper, more meaningful goals than superficial ones of avoiding probate. We also create strategic plans that are tailored to clients’ needs and circumstances, involving tax, asset protection, estate and business planning, and more. I think we are truly unique in practice and our value proposition is difficult to mimic.

Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
Relationships are the most important thing; whether with clients, colleagues and referral sources.
