Meet Arthur Currie of Homewatch CareGivers

Today we’d like to introduce you to Arthur Currie.

Hi Arthur, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Hi, I’m Arthur Currie, and I am the owner of Homewatch CareGivers of Coral Gables. Let me tell you a little about why I’m here: caring for people in their homes is very close to my heart, and to my family. I’m grateful my job is to help people, and I choose to do it with an incredible team of kind, caring and compassionate people.

When my grandfather was living with a serious illness, my mother and grandmother cared for him at home. I saw how much it meant to him to be cared for with love. Everyone deserves that, and that’s what we provide at Homewatch CareGivers.

My father is a geriatrician who has spent the best part of forty years crusading for better care for older people. His message: people live longer and happier lives when they are in their own homes, and well supported. I’m proud to continue his legacy by providing that support at home in our community here in Coral Gables and Miami. We will help you to stay in your own home, where your memories are. If you’re taking care of someone, we can be the helping hand, so that you can simply be the family.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
In the beginning, when you’re starting something new, everything feels uncertain. You care deeply, but no one knows your name yet. The people you’re meant to help can’t quite find you. Every conversation, every decision, every system is new and unfamiliar, and you have to learn to keep going without much external reassurance.

What changes things isn’t force or speed—it’s time and care doing their quiet work. As you help one family, then another, their experiences begin to travel on their own. Stories get shared. A sense of trust starts to move ahead of you. Doors open that couldn’t be opened directly.

Along the way, you also begin to recognize others in the healthcare community who are guided by the same values—people who care deeply, who take responsibility seriously, and who understand that good care is built through presence, not shortcuts. Finding those allies makes the work steadier, more human.

Looking back, the challenges were part of learning how to do this the right way. And for the families who find us now, they don’t have to walk that uncertain beginning—we already did.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Homewatch CareGivers?
Homewatch Caregivers of Coral Gables provides compassionate, non-medical in-home care for seniors and adults with disabilities throughout Miami-Dade County. We help families navigate one of life’s most challenging transitions—ensuring their loved ones can age safely, comfortably, and with dignity in their own homes, where their memories are, rather than having to move into an assisted living facility. Our services range from companionship and personal care assistance (e.g. help with bathing, meals, getting around the house) to 24-hour live-in support.

We take time to understand personality compatibility, language preferences, cultural backgrounds, and specific care needs before matching caregivers with clients. That means connecting you with a caregiver who speaks your language, whether it’s English, Spanish or Creole, and matching personality types that create genuine companionship. We’ve noticed that the hardest part for older people is trying out having a caregiver in their home. Once care starts, the caregiver becomes a close friend very fast, sometimes just like family. It’s taking the leap to try it out that people hesitate on.

One thing we’re very proud of is that we work with families and seniors of various budgets, and help them get care for free whenever possible. This can be through long term care insurance, veteran’s benefits, or through their Medicare Advantage plans.

What matters most to you? Why?
I do this because I love working with kind, compassionate and caring people in healthcare, and I want my life to be built around taking care of people – our care team, our caregivers, our clients.

Pricing:
