Meet Antoinette Emanuel

Today, we’d like to introduce you to Antoinette Emanuel. Antoinette was introduced to us by the brilliant and talented Samara Ash.

Antoinette, thank you so much for joining us today. We’d love for you to bring our readers up to speed – can you introduce yourself and share your story?
“Hola”, I’m Antoinette Emanuel, a Miami-based interior designer specializing in restaurants born in Lima, Peru.  Over 13 years ago, I was exclusively designing residential interiors when I met restaurateur Juan Chipoco.  At the time, he was looking for a designer for his first Peruvian restaurant – the famous Cviche 105 – located in the old Miami Downtown area. I didn’t know much about restaurant design then.  So, I told myself: “I’ll design a place that I would like to bring my girlfriends out to Brunch!!” From that day on, I wanted to specialize in restaurant interior design.

I hold a Fine Arts major and I feel that through these types of projects, I get the opportunity to freely express my creativity.

I thank my clients that trusted me and gave me a chance without any commercial portfolio at that time.
Soon after, I designed POLLOS Y JARRAS, FINKA, AMELIAS’ 1931, & VISTA RESTAURANT to mention a few.
Now, I direct projects nationally & internationally: in the States, South America and Europe.  I feel that this trajectory has enriched my style and technique.
Designing restaurants is my passion!

Please tell us more about your brand, Antoinette inDesign
While I have international design experience, I also have a deep understanding of the local culture and the Miami Style. This gives me a unique perspective when it comes to designing restaurants that truly capture the essence of this city. We call it “El Sabor de Miami.”

I believe that the most noticeable restaurants in Miami are the ones that embrace the local flavors into their projects through the use of ambient lighting, tropical accents, custom colorful furniture and unique murals created by local artists like Samara Ash. At the moment, Miami is a major global player in the hospitality scene, and I am blessed to be able to recreate that sexy-chic atmosphere anywhere.  I’m currently bringing that spice into other states throughout the US.

Spaces overall have their own characteristics and personalities and they have a lot to say. My job is to listen to each of them and let them lead the design. I am proud of how successful all my restaurants have become; I like to think that my designs have something to do with it!

So, as we mentioned to our audience earlier, you were introduced to us by Samara Ash and we really admire them and what they’ve built. For folks who might not be as familiar, can you tell them a bit about your experience with Samara.

As previously mentioned, it is pivotal for me to include art in my designs. For this reason, I had worked before with many local talented artists in these large commercial projects where the game truly changes.  Professionalism, time, & logistics become as important as their talent and, back then, I got to experience their artist EGO which can be unnecessary.  In my team, we all have to be on the same page,  we all have to share the same work ethic, otherwise, it just doesn’t work.

Samara has it all… amazing talent for any artistic challenge from realistic murals, to concrete faux finishes, to wall paper designs. She can do anything, and she will do it right.

Our first project together was “Lita” in Walnut Creek (San Francisco, CA). From the beginning, she became my right hand, my eyes. I was able to come back to Miami with peace of mind… Her ability and creativity to overcome unexpected obstacles, just amazed me time after time.  We all know commercial projects can be daunting, intricate, stressful, & things sometimes don’t go as planned, yet she still managed to make the whole team look good. “Lita” has won many awards including Best New Restaurant of the Year in the East Bay area!
Since then, we have worked together on many projects and I’m sure we will continue to collaborate in many more projects still to come.  I call her my Renaissance girl!
