Today we’d like to introduce you to Anna Elton
Hi Anna, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
The human mind and the way emotions shape our thoughts, behaviors, and relationships have always fascinated me. I’ve been especially drawn to the connection between cognition and emotional intelligence—how recognizing, understanding, and managing emotions influence both personal well-being and interpersonal dynamics. This curiosity led me to explore psychology early on, laying the foundation for my career as a therapist.
When it came time to choose my Master’s path, I pursued family therapy because relationships profoundly shape who we are, starting as early as the parent-child bond. Later, when I pursued my PhD, I focused on Clinical Sexology. Through my work with couples, I found that intimacy is the second most common challenge they face—right after finances. The third tends to be a combination of parenting, household responsibilities, and extended family dynamics.
Currently, I write extensively. I have a blog on Psychology Today called Life, Love, etc., and I have two books on the way. Later this year, Digital Couples Therapy will explore how technology shapes self-perception, communication, intimacy, and infidelity. In 2026, The Formula of Desire will focus on sustaining connection and intimacy in long-term relationships.
I also host a bi-weekly relationship show on Jess TV called Life, Love, etc., where I explore relationship dynamics and provide insights. Beyond that, I speak at conferences and events, teach live webinars, and continue expanding my work to help individuals and couples navigate modern relationships.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It’s never a smooth road, and I had to find my passions along the way. Being a therapist is incredibly rewarding, but it also comes with challenges. You absorb a lot of emotions, especially the difficult ones. Processing them in a healthy way is essential. I make a point to exercise regularly to stay balanced and prevent emotional exhaustion. Therapists are at risk of secondary trauma due to constant exposure to others’ pain, so protecting our own well-being is crucial.
Finding a healthy balance between work and life is just as important. It’s easy to carry the emotional weight home, and that can be extremely challenging. Learning to set boundaries and make space for personal time ensures that the work remains fulfilling without becoming overwhelming.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I specialize in relationships, intimacy, and communication. As a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and Clinical Sexologist, I work with individuals and couples to help them navigate challenges such as digital infidelity, intimacy struggles, and communication breakdowns.
I always strive to be strategic and intentional with my time and efforts, and that approach translates into both my therapy and writing. I want individuals to get the most out of every session, article, book, or show episode. My focus is on providing tools and techniques that can be applied long-term, practical strategies that create lasting change rather than quick fixes.
Beyond that, I emphasize the importance of a positive mindset and improving relationships—not just with others, but most importantly, with oneself. A strong foundation of self-awareness and self-compassion allows people to build healthier connections.
What sets me apart is my ability to bridge clinical insights with real-world applications. Whether through therapy, writing, speaking engagements, or my bi-weekly relationship show Life, Love, etc. on Jess TV, my goal is always to equip people with knowledge they can use in their daily lives.
Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
I absolutely love Florida for its amazing weather and friendly people. We chose Port St. Lucie because of its strategic location between Miami and Orlando, making it easy to visit both on a day trip. When we moved here in 2021, it had a slower pace, which we enjoyed. Now, the city is expanding, which has its pros and cons. On the plus side, we have more restaurants, shops, and amenities. On the downside, growth brings more traffic and a busier atmosphere.
