Today we’d like to introduce you to Angelo Elia.
Moving to the U.S. from Salerno, Italy, as a teenager, Angelo worked his way through some of New York’s most prestigious kitchens, including the Four Seasons and the family-operated La Cisterna. After moving to South Florida with his wife Denise, he served at the helm of Prezzo and H2O before opening Casa D’Angelo, his first restaurant.
His passion for “the old country” inspired him to create a menu of traditional Tuscan dishes, using only the finest ingredients and making virtually everything from scratch. The menu, both rustic and refined, immediately attracted locals, visitors, and media, with the restaurant quickly becoming a culinary destination for foodies seeking the ultimate in Italian fine dining. It’s a distinction Casa D’ Angelo Fort Lauderdale has kept for nearly two decades.
After making a big South Florida splash, he was tapped to open Casa D’Angelo at Atlantis, Paradise Island in The Bahamas, serving the same high-quality food with the same superior service for which his Fort Lauderdale restaurant is so well known. The Atlantis restaurant is now billed as “the place to go” on Paradise Island.
Not content to rest on his laurels, in 2008, he opened Casa D’Angelo in Boca Raton and, in 2010, launched an all-new concept – the sleek, contemporary Angelo Elia Pizza, Bar, Tapas in Fort Lauderdale. The casually elegant lunch and dinner destination was an instant success and spawned locations in Weston, Delray Beach, Coral Springs and Doral. In 2016, Angelo Elia The Bakery Bar, an authentic Italian bakery bar, opened in Ft. Lauderdale, serving authentic Italian pastries, bread, sandwiches, gelatos, and coffees.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It was hard and lonely and a lot of hard work. New York is a hard city. Long hours, really no time to be a teenager, it was hard work. If you can make it there you can make it anywhere. I learned a lot.
Please tell us about Casa D’Angelo.
The time and love that is put into the business sets us apart. We strive to be the best every day and provide our guests with the best quality of food possible, which I am extremely proud of and I think our customers recognize that as well.
