Meet Andy Rowe

Today we’d like to introduce you to Andy Rowe.

Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
Hi, I’m currently the Marketing Director for Insider Tulum (a boutique digital marketing firm with clients in the USA, Canada, and Mexico). I wasn’t always interested in marketing and eCommerce. Originally I was teaching English in South East Asia and picked up dj’ing as a hobby. I became a professional after about three years and was managing my own career full time. At the time Facebook ads weren’t that saturated, and it was really cheap and relatively easy to boost content and grow an audience, so I taught myself the basics of PPC ads and was able to reach a headliner level that entertainment industry.

Fast forward two more years and I’m now one of the premier acts around and able to book 4-5 festival shows in a season. However, I was also approaching 30 and knew the fame would fade. So, I decided to get my MBA. After completing my degree, I moved back to the USA and took a job as the General Manager for a military supply/clothing manufacturer. This is where I really sharpened my sword. Logistics aside I also was responsible for the customer service, marketing, and branding department heads and staff. It wasn’t until we needed to replace our marketing director that I fell in love with marketing. While looking for a replacement, I absorbed the workload and fell in love with the creative freedom and how that translated to a direct boost in sales. I learned a lot through trial and error, and after a few home runs, I knew I found my niche.

Fast forward a few more years, and I’m in the Mexican Riviera with a remote office development project nearing completion, and I’m faced with a choice; go back to consulting for small business development of stay surf side and build my own business. To be honest, I was resigned to return to consulting, but it wasn’t until an impromptu visit from a friend who had launched a few successful eCommerce stores that I convinced myself I could do it too. So I built my brand, team and client list from the ground up and now our boutique agency has over 20 clients (restaurants, spas, hotels, and tour agencies) spread over North America and a newly formed sister brand (Insider Gotham) that focuses on PR and boutique hotel events in NY, MIA, and LA. And THAT is what brought me to Miami.

Please tell us about your art.
I wouldn’t personally consider myself an artist. For me, I feel that to be a true artist, one’s work should profoundly contribute to the human ideal and the philosophy of freedom. But purely for inspo, I can say that my creative workflow follows one motto: “Success is never owned; it is rented, and the rent is due every day”.

As an artist, how do you define success and what quality or characteristic do you feel is essential to success as an artist?
Perseverance is everything. Success comes to those that have the will and drive to continue to push forward when everyone else has either given up or fallen off. I could compare the characteristics essential to success with that of an elite long-distance runner. You train and train to build your stamina to compete against the best, but in the end, you’re only in a race with yourself to beat your own personal records and nothing else.

Christian Hooker @nychooker

I’d like to note that Christian Hooker and Rich Greene recently completed their first collaborative piece title “El Centro.” El Centro is a first in a line of sonic art pieces that combines industrial design and music. The piece is fashioned after a Mayan sundial and layered with 24kt gold leaf. The piece also serves as a listening device for Rich Greene and Max Barker’s newly released track also titled “El Centro.” It draws its inspiration from Tulum, Mexico and local Mayans aided in creating the instrumentals for the song.
