Today we’d like to introduce you to Andrea Hidalgo Martí.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I was born in Venezuela, and in 2014, I moved to Panama to work at Articruz, the studio of Carlos Cruz-Diez. Being there was transformative; I learned about production, materials, installations, and logistics, but even more, I learned the values that guide an artist’s practice: discipline, curiosity, and the importance of collaboration.
In 2018, I joined Marion Art Gallery, where I stepped into the commercial side of the art world. I learned how to connect an artist’s vision with collectors, all under the guidance of mentors who generously shared their experience.
In 2020, I moved to Miami to work as a studio manager for sculptor Rafael Barrios. That experience gave me an even deeper appreciation for the dedication, patience, and care required to bring art to life.
In 2022, I founded Artsy Conveyance, my fine art logistics company, to bring together everything I had learned and provide artists, collectors, and galleries with a trusted, comprehensive service.
And in 2024, I realized another dream with Crated Store, a space that connects emerging collectors with talented artists. Every piece is unique, approachable, and real, no mass production, no reproductions. It’s about making meaningful art accessible while supporting artists in sharing their work with the world.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It hasn’t been a smooth road at all, but every challenge has shaped who I am and the work I do today. Migrating twice, first from Venezuela and later from Panama, meant starting over more than once, learning new systems, cultures, and business rules each time. It was difficult, but it also gave me a broader perspective and a deep sense of adaptability that I’m grateful for.
One of the most profound challenges came shortly after starting my company. After building the foundation of our business together, my life partner (who was also my business partner) passed away suddenly. I found myself grieving while also facing the reality of running a new company alone. Continuing the business became a source of purpose for me, a way to honor him and keep his presence alive in the work we started together. Art, in many ways, became part of my healing process.
Working in fine art logistics also came with its own barriers. It’s a male-dominated field, and in the beginning, it wasn’t easy for clients to trust a young woman handling crating, installations, transport, and large financial transactions. Over time, consistency, professionalism, and care helped build that trust, but it took persistence.
With Crated Store, the challenges were different. Competing with large companies selling mass-produced art, prints, and reproductions is not easy. Educating young collectors about the value of unique, one-of-a-kind works and encouraging them to support emerging artists has been a huge but meaningful effort. I believe deeply in the mission, even when the market makes it difficult.
Overall, the journey hasn’t been easy, but it has been purposeful. Art has supported me both financially and emotionally. Being able to work in a field I’m passionate about, to uplift artists, connect people with meaningful work, and carry forward the legacy of someone I loved, that has been the biggest blessing.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I work in the art world in a few different but connected ways. Through my fine art logistics company, Artsy Conveyance, I help galleries and collectors move, ship, and install artworks safely and securely, taking care of every detail so that artists’ and collectors’ visions are preserved. I also provide consultation for artists, helping them build and organize their careers, manage their business, and navigate the art world with confidence.
Through my other project, Crated Store, I curate and sell unique, one-of-a-kind works by emerging artists with strong institutional backgrounds. It’s a space designed for people who want to collect meaningful, authentic art, whether to start a personal collection or find a truly special gift. At the same time, we ensure our artists are fairly compensated and supported, creating a transparent, respectful, and collaborative relationship.
What I’m most proud of is being able to bridge gaps in the art world: helping artists share their work, guiding collectors to discover pieces they truly connect with, and offering comprehensive support behind the scenes. What sets me apart is this combination of insider knowledge, hands-on experience, and a genuine commitment to fostering meaningful connections in the art community.
Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
The art world is constantly evolving, and over the next 5–10 years, I believe we’ll continue to see significant changes. Since the pandemic, the market has accelerated toward digital previews and early sales, and many artworks are sold before art fairs or exhibitions even open their doors. We’re also seeing more galleries closing their physical spaces due to rising costs, pushing the industry to adapt to new technologies and more flexible, hybrid models. At the same time, a new generation of collectors is emerging: younger, more curious, and increasingly interested in art not only as an investment but as a meaningful part of their lives.
Even though art isn’t a basic necessity like food or water, I believe it is just as necessary for the spirit. Art preserves the culture of our time, and those of us who work in this field carry the responsibility of supporting artists, protecting their work, and making it accessible.
My hope and part of my mission is to be a platform for talent and to bring people closer to meaningful, inspiring artworks they can live with every day. I truly believe every person deserves to be surrounded by art: beauty that inspires, pieces that make us reflect, and perspectives that help us grow and empathize with the world around us.
